Picking up someone else's project that got shelved tomorrow. A Remington 700 barrelled action in .308 with the factory 26" barrel. Also included are two Hogue overmold stocks, an Archangel stock and a 20" SPS tactical barrel.

My plan so far is to have the tactical barrel swapped with the standard barrel and have it threaded. I may even have it cut down a couple inches. Will be installing an Ares Effin-A muzzle brake as well.

My only sticking point is the stock. I recently saw a Magpul Hunter and really like it but is it really an upgrade over the Archangel? I figure I can sell the AA and Hogue stocks plus the stock 26" barrel and pay for the Magpul stock, bottom metal, a 5 and 10 round magazine and have a little cash left over for ammo.

    Thoughts???

I personally like the Magpul more and I would consider it an upgrade over Archangel for sure. Both are sort of "entry level" or "lower end" stocks but not in a bad way. The Hunter has the ability to accept a Pmag kit that magpul makes and it is fully Mlok compatible. Makes for a versatile, affordable package. I vote for the Magpul.

Thank you. That is kind of the same thinking I am having. It won't be for long range competition shooting but for hunting. I was considering also a Boyd's, but I like the adjustability of the shoulder stock on the Magpul depending on what I am wearing for LOP.

To step up out of "entry level" means usually a step up in weight and a definite step up in cost. I am trying to keep the total stock costs under $300-ish (including bottom metal & magazine)

I've never picked up anything by Archangel that I would put in my gun room. I have the Magpul and it is a very nice upgrade over the factory stock.

The next step up would be mor of a bench stock for boring paper shooting. I think you made the right choice for hunting. Post pics when your done!

    Gonna be a while.

Waiting on the Effin-A Muzzle Brake now. When that comes in, the action goes off to have the 26" barrel removed and the 20" bull barrel installed (after it is shortened to 18" and threaded).

Haven't decided on a trigger yet either.

I have seen a few places advertise they have green bit they want more than I am willing to pay. The barrel is at Duffys getting cut down and threaded and put on the action. ... so I have time.

OK, let's see who is still paying attention. Finally got her all done. 2010 Remington 700 ADL .308 converted to a BDL and then to an SPS. Magpul ODG Hunter 700 stock with the Magpul bottom metal and a five (converted to six) round polymer magazine. John? at Duffy's did a lot of work on her. The old barrel had to be cut off and the new barrel didn't index properly so he shortened and recut the chamber, trued it all up and reparkerized and cerakoted the lot. Also threaded the bolt handle for the aftermarket oversized ODG aluminum handle, parked and cerakoted the bolt. Cut the 20" SPS bull barrel down to 18" and threaded for the Effin-A muzzle brake. Installed a RifleBasix L1-K trigger and topped it with a DNZ Game Reaper base holding a Cabelas brand 6-18x50 (I could have gone with medium rings or I can install a 56mm objective optic at a later date).
