    A very good snake! Based on scales and color, it look like a young Black Rat Snake. One thing, they can grow quite long and they climb trees - had an 8 1/2-footer crawl across my MIL's driveway last summer during a family get-together - completely docile and beautiful!

    That could be a new record for a Black Rat snake, as the current record is 8'5".
    I have never seen one over 6' long.

    +1 on this. They also go into gutters to eat bugs.

    My family runs to the snakes. This pic was taken when my daughter was 3ish and the delay on the camera was just enough to catch her spontaneously give this baby Garter a kiss.....
