For great Justice
I think they're cool for the same reason I like a lot of other tactical stuff. It appeals to the lizard brain part of me. It LOOKS cool. The young part of my soul grew up in the 80s watching robot cartoons and GI Joe. This is awesome. The adult who owns my debit card won't spend good money for it though.
Have tried a few, the KS7 is awesome, 6lbs, 26", 13" LOP, non NFA, really low bore axis, it's tiny for a 12ga pump, only downside is that reloading sucks, and it really needs a rail and sights/optic, the carry handle monstrosity is flimsy and sucks. The KSG and in turn the M&P12 gives a lot of that up, it's really heavy and wide, and the dual tube feed complicated loading and you have to manually switch feeding. Mag feeding to solve the reload issue kinda makes it unwieldy as anything over a 5rd 12ga mag is pretty big. The bullpup design lends itself to a compact semi-auto, the reduced recoil and speed you can fire is pretty nice for tactical use, but the near impossibility to use it with a bead sight on top of the barrel makes it suck for aerial targets. There was a prototype 12ga bullpup design where the mag and barrel were flipped, the barrel on the bottom lowered the bore axis even more, and a nice wide loading port in front of the cheek rest should be really fast to weak hand dual and quad load, but had to single load from the ejection port on the bottom. Main issue it's a dying platform for tactical use, no matter how good a 12ga can be, a defensive carbine holds a ton more ammo, loads and fires faster, dramatically less recoil, and is far easier to handle.
