The article missed the most important part of the settlement, that the US government conceded that semi automatic weapons are not “weapons of war”.

Looks like some in Congress are pushing back on the lifting of the ITAR restrictions.

I doubt this will lead to any reversal.

It's funny that the media keeps saying "sell." DD won't be selling nor have they ever sold these files. They're free.

    He's a prescient mofo.

    DD ITAR Update 1
A few have criticized how quickly I responded to the DDTC and began participating in their regulatory process. It is said I should have stood and fought if I believed in keeping the files free, instead of complying. This compliance has been viewed as some kind of ultimate one, as if I don’t intend to do anything else.

“No takedowns, ever.” Was a motto I had built into my vision of DEFCAD.com, not DEFCAD.org, and it referred to a strategy for dealing with intellectual property claims and social pressure- this is NOT the strategy DD/DEFCAD.org can adopt with the Department of State. It seems we may have to have our rights declared in court to simply keep developing gun files to put into the public domain. DD’s right to exist is being challenged.

DD has maintained counsel for many months, and it happens that my strategy is not to just have DEFCAD seized and DD sued out of existence. No, as ever, I think DD/DEFCAD can win. The Liberator was a victory. DEFCAD serving near a million files is a victory. Letting the State Department get that global spotlight was a victory.

The Internet was asked to choose between guns and the control of information. Guess what it chose? We created an important moment for understanding a future with 3D Printing, and the Liberator is rightly everywhere.

Now the demonstration is over, and the hard work of having all our rights preserved is just beginning. ITAR might cover 3DP technical data for generations if DD doesn’t intelligently challenge this assertion of authority.

These politicians have looked like absolute monsters in the vacuum.

I will not apologize for knowing how to choose the battle.

NPR did a full one hour segment this morning on this case, and the larger implications. Of course there was a rep from the Brady group who was parroting the usual blood in the streets argument. She not only reinforced her group’s anti 2A stance, but also exposed her group’s willingness to disregard the vaunted 1A. Fortunately there was a rep from the CATO Institute to counter her arguments.

I was dissapointed that Cody Wilson himself didn’t join in the panel. He was booked for it but backed out at the last minute for some reason. I find his arguments and logic of weaving the 2A into 1A fascinating, and would loved to have listened to him rebut the anti’s arguments.

That’s a bummer. He was just on AWR Hawkin’s Bullets show the other night. Sounded like he had a cold or URI or something.

He demolishes everyone he encounters. I’ve never seen anyone else handle a debate like him and he’s been doing it since his early 20’s.

I love his bold, fearless attitude in shifting the gun rights paradigm into the modern information age, and the resulting implications on the free exchange of information that it affords. I was really looking forward to hearing his perspective, and to hear him take down the anti-freedom rep from Brady.

This tectonic shift has the anti-freedom gun grabbers on their heels, and hopefully exposed for not only their hatred for the 2A, but also of the 1A. Fear is all they have left to peddle.

Secretary Pompeo is in a senate hearing right now. Dem senator just asked him to reconsider the new export looseness because otherwise Hamas is going to be able to download AR-15s.

Pompeo said, “I’ll look into it.” Look in his eye was “WTF, senator, really?”
