Browning with peanut butter?

I swear I read somewhere online recently that you could brown the shiny barrel of a reproduction flintlock pistol using creamy peanut butter. Slather it on, let it dry, flake it off, slather, etc., then fix the process with something when you're done.

Now I can't find where I read that. [sigh]

Has anyone heard of doing that? If so, what's the complete process? If not, what have I been drinking?

I would think if it was a good method that it would be popular.
I can say this, browning or bluing a barrel does not take much $ to do. Its the time to prep, clean, apply, clean etc.
Most of the liquids are like $15 or less.

I would just get a bottle of Mark Lee express brown and be done with it. Polish well, boil water, dunk then apply. Neutralize with baking soda then wipe with linseed or flax oil.

Too much oil, probably wouldn't do anything but keep it nice. Now mustard is used to pattern patina stuff, can wipe on and off in streaks ro give a damascus-ish pattern

I was once told you just leave your barrel outside for a week or so...and pee on it every night. I'm not going to do that...but browning is rust...I can see the logic. :shrug:

But I'm still not going to do it.
