    Cross posted from WeaponsGuild:

I swear I read somewhere online recently that you could brown the shiny barrel of a reproduction flintlock pistol using creamy peanut butter. Slather it on, let it dry, flake it off, slather, etc., then fix the process with something when you're done.

Now I can't find where I read that. [sigh]

Has anyone heard of doing that? If so, what's the complete process? If not, what have I been drinking? :)

I would think if it was a good method that it would be popular.
I can say this, browning or bluing a barrel does not take much $ to do. Its the time to prep, clean, apply, clean etc.
Most of the liquids are like $15 or less.

Too much oil, probably wouldn't do anything but keep it nice. Now mustard is used to pattern patina stuff, can wipe on and off in streaks ro give a damascus-ish pattern

I was once told you just leave your barrel outside for a week or so...and pee on it every night. I'm not going to do that...but browning is rust...I can see the logic. But I'm still not going to do it.
