I keep a bank of seeds that I cycle through and replace but I’m unsure which seeds do best for long term storage. Anyone keep a long term storage bank of seeds?
temperature and humidity changes are the worst things for storing seeds. Start with dry seeds and store in an air tight container in the basement and add a desiccant pack in it.
I just went through this and planted corn in my neighbors garden and replanted it again yesterday for late corn. Nothing sprouted and I asked him about his seed and the said its 5 years old and was stored in the garage. Hot and cold and lots of humidity will destroy viability of the seed.
I have sprouted 5 year old corn stored in the basement and just kept dry, dark and cool.
I think most heirloom seed keepers use mason jars.
