Sorry, no I don't have a carry permit. Just one for registering guns. I wasn't sure that every state has similar laws that MD does. I was starting to believe the spew that the Left is putting out there. I gotta stop watching the Democrat conflicts. I watched because they were a form of comedy for me. But I made a mistake of believing some of that crap.

I haven't chimed in here for a long time. Excuse me if I'm not on the same plane that you are all on. But I had not known that only 9 states have background checks to buy a gun. What is wrong with a universal background check? I know that in MD I went through a stringent background check. These murders by licensed gun owners are beginning to worry me. Again, I'm all for the 2nd Amendment rights, just having second thoughts on how these folks pass through the system.

A background check is just that, it checks your background for any disqualifying events up to that date. It can't predict what you are going to do in the future.

You can buy a handgun in many states without a background check. Much of free America still allow face to face transactions. You only have a background check if you buy from a store. Background checks are no more than a wet dream, they don't stop anything, but cause inconvenience for law abiding folks. Just look at the status and ages of most of the murderers right here in Baltimore, how many could legally buy a handgun or any firearm?

As a general rule, you should start questioning your own gullibility if you are starting to believe anything the left says. Don't trust...verify!

Nine states plus D.C. require a LICENSE before a person can start the process of purchasing a gun. That is over and above the background check. Be careful not to believe everything the left says.

The issue isn't with background checks per-se, it's with the relatively transparent strategy to make owning or purchasing a firearm as expensive, inconvenient and intimidating as possible. The current law basically requires a NICS check and record of sale for any FFL transfer, new guns from a shop gun show or wherever, but .gov doesn't have jurisdiction on in-state, non FFL transfers primarily in the secondary market, that is state law. It also doesn't change the federal prohibition of mere firearms POSSESSION by people that have been adjudicated as dangerous, incompetent, or criminal. The most obvious result of "universal" background checks would be a federal takeover of state law in secondary transfers.where both parties are by default lawful. It also is unenforceable as-is, and basically requires registration, paperwork and probably licensing to accomplish, so if there is a ban, they know exactly what you have, where it is, and if you sold/lost it, with federal criminal penalties for any "paperwork" error, or failing to produce firearms assigned to you way before any actual issue with confiscation in practice. It's a really clever strategy that most gun owners don't really see a problem with on the surface, but it is a gigantic opportunity to gain anti-freedom momentum, create criminals from honest people that didn't ask for the proper permission, file the proper paperwork, or posses the proper license. Those are 3 things that no right should be subject to.

What is wrong with a universal background check? Nothing if, and only if, you trust that the Feds will not use the information as a prerequisite for gun confiscation.

I think with the current climate, the Fed CANNOT be trusted and I therefore will not support universal mandatory gun registration (which is what this will amount to).

Or,if you trust that the government won't use UBC as a weapon to add an undue financial burden, or as a way to slow the frequency you're allowed to excercise your right. $100 fee, the "oh sorry our system is overwhelmed at the moment it'll be 2 months to process your background, sorry" type of scenarios.

I love my guns. I use them for target shooting and have my trusty F&N on my bedside. Are you saying that if a person feels that they are so unstable to own a gun, they shouldn't have one? Those are the folks that I am talking about.

That's what one would call Personal Responsibility. It means you take responsibility for the consequences of your actions, both present and contemplated. In the case you cited when the person feels they should not responsibly own a gun they can give it to a friend or FFL to hold until treatment assures they are again able to own a gun. A simple (NOT simpleminded) answer is usually the best, IMO.

Much like we saw with good old Lawnchair 'Lar here in Maryland. Trump will propose and/or sign more restrictive gun laws, his staunch supporters will say nothing more than...... "Welp...... imagine what Clinton would have done!".

It's like, you don't get anywhere near what you want, but ridiculous blind brand loyalty forces you to stick it out no matter what.

What is the actual, workable alternative in terms of legislation that will actually pass a Pelosi-run congress? Specifically, I mean. Something more 2A friendly than anything Trump would call for or support. What would it take for Pelosi to be a better friend to us than Trump and our slim majority in the Senate? Would love to know what people think would cause her and Schumer to completely overturn their decades-long positions on that front. Cuz I don't seem them waking up tomorrow and being to the right of the guy they say they hate on gun-related matters.

There's a 99% chance it's gonna be UBCs (totally doing away with FTF handgun sales regardless of State laws). Very likely UBCs for what used to be FTF long gun sales.

I have yet to see any meaningful movement on national reciprocity. Between constant 14 year old girl'esk tweeting habits, wasted trips to meet with dingbat N Koreans and steady fvcking with China.... there's not much time for progress on common sense stuff.

He can propose a law that all mental health facilities must be tied into NICS in order to facilitate Universal Background Checks. The Devil's Spawn will choke and never agree to that. Then he can lite up Twitter, Twatter etc. that he tried to pass meaningful regulations and the Evil demorats fought him tooth and nail.

Thank you all for the responses. Like I said at the beginning, I haven't visited here in a long time. Your responses all make sense. I have been seeing both sides of the debates (CNN and Fox)The Left wants a lot of arms taken away. Mr. O'Rourke ( American Irish American dude in the cloud of an Hispanic) And where would it end? Probably they want all guns gone so that only the criminals have them.

Again, these mass killings I would love to see end. But the news reports do not focus on the day-to-day murders. That frankly. add up to a lot more than any mass shootings. I have all prayers out for the folks and families of these recent tragedies. God bless them all and hopefully they find healing.

That is the problem, noone on CNN or FOX understand 2A issues. They are talking heads that parrot what they are told to say.

After I pointed out how Martha McCallum always states "I do not know X, but presses questions she is told to ask", especially 2A related topics. Mrs Inigoes stopped watching "The Story". lol
