I'm tempted to get this stock for my Marlin 795. A wood stock beats a crappy plastic stock any day of the week as far as I'm concerned, even if it's not a particularly good wood stock.

Is there any reason I shouldn't do this? Might accuracy go down?

I'm not fond of Monte Carlo combs -- to me they ruin the lines of the stock. but for that price you could shave and sand the damn thing off:D

If you are good at googling there is a post on rimfirecentral.com where a guy swapped it out if you want to see some pictures.. Shouldn't effect accuracy, might make it better because it's a more stable stock with less flex. When you get it let me know I'm thinking about getting the gray laminated one if it ever comes back in stock.

ETA: This is the stock I'm talking about but it's always sold out.

Wow that M1 Carbine stock conversion is awesome. It's a fair amount of work though, and I don't have all of those woodworking tools.

Maybe at some point in the future.

I might be mistaken, but, doesn't the aftermarket stocks fit both the 795 and the 60 models ? I have my original finished stock for my Marlin 781. I found a couple 781 on ebay to do a custom paint job on instead of messing up the original.

The Marlin 60 has a tubular magazine beneath the barrel. Any stock that has a cut-out for that is going to look weird on a Marlin 795, which doesn't need that cut-out.

Ok. I knew they fit somehow, but, I forgot about the tube deal. Thanks for the clarification.

Synthetic stocks are better than wood - accuracy wise. Unless a wooden stock is a heavy laminate / resin impregnated - they can warp with humidity, and temps, causing a shift in POA, or even opening up groups. The sythetics may not look as pretty - but they do serve a purpose. Alot has to do with how the action is bedded, and if the barrel is free floated as well.

    Wood vs laminate

Yeah, Some laminate are pretty sexy though. This is a pine stock, I know how much wood warps in houses  but I poly-d this with 3 coats, inside and out, and it is SMOOTH. LOVE that 400 grit, made it like glass. It has a little personality with the imperfections in it too... But with a 795 the barrel is free floating anyways... It hasn't affected my shooting.
