Academy Sports manager fired weeks after intercepting gun thief suspect in Florida store, lawyer says

A sporting goods store employee, who last month helped catch a suspect allegedly trying to swipe a weapon, was suspended and later lost his job at the Florida business following the incident, his lawyer said.

Dean Crouch, 32, was working at the Academy Sports store in Tallahassee on June 29 when robbery suspect Jason White allegedly tried to steal a gun, the Tallahassee Democrat reported.

After White reportedly tried to flee with the stolen firearm he’d requested to see, Crouch stepped in and ultimately detained him.

The suspect also allegedly stole two weapons from a pawn shop earlier the same day, police said.

Kudos to the employee who put himself at risk to keep a gun out of the hands of a bad guy. The store should give him a bonus, as well as the community. We need more heroes like that.

Academy stores are nice. I was in one in NC several weeks ago. The gun dept. has an entire customer aisle marked, "AR Accessories" and "AK Accessories" with 30- rnd P-mags among other things. Glock accessory rack on endcap had 33-rnd factory mags. Didn't look at all like the Wild West. Just America. Families, couples shopping for guns and accessories for Fathers Day.

Academy is a great store, albeit overpriced as far as clothes. We've bought a TON of shoes there. Bought a lot of ammo and targets there. Better deals can be had on firearms at the lgs though.
The best thing is their 5% price match guarantee. If any competitor had a better price on something they will beat it by 5%.

yep just like putting a gun free zone sign in your front yard, let's put a sign outside saying you can steal from us and we won't chase or even impede you...
