Today we will begin with the first in a series of alerts that will all work toward the goal of getting national reciprocity, Once the national reciprocity campaign is over, we will start a different campaign to clean up DC's gun laws (making CHPs "shall issue," removing ammunition and magazine limitations, and eliminating DC's gun registration scheme).

Phase 1 is extremely important and is directed at Representative Bob Goodlatte only.

Phase 1A involves gun owners who live in Congressman Bob Goodlatte's district (Virginia's 6th Congressional District - all or part of the counties of Warren, Shenandoah, Page, Rockingham, Highland, Augusta, Bath, Bedford, Rockbridge, Botetourt, Roanoke, and Amherst as well as the cities of Harrisonburg, Staunton, Waynesboro, Lexington, Buena Vista, Lynchburg, and Roanoke.).

    Phase 1B involves everyone else.

WHY PHASE 1 IS DIRECTED AT BOB GOODLATTE

Bob Goodlatte chairs the powerful House Judiciary Committee. H.R. 38, the national reciprocity bill that VCDL wants to see passed, is currently stuck in the House Judiciary's Crime, Terrorism, Homeland Security, and Investigations subcommittee, which is chaired by Rep. Trey Gowdy from South Carolina. We need to get that bill moving and contacting Chairman Goodlatte is one way to do that.

ACTION ITEM 1: PHASE 1A FOR THOSE WHO ARE CONSTITUENTS OF BOB GOODLATTE ONLY

If you live in Bob Goodlatte's district, your help is critical in getting national reciprocity! As a constituent, you can call Bob Goodlatte's office and speak to one of his aides.

Call any one of the following numbers and ask to speak to an aide:

    202-225-5431 DC Office
    540-432-2391 Harrisonburg
    434-845-8306 Lynchburg
    540-857-2672 Roanoke
    540-885-3861 Staunton

    Talking points for the aide:

    * H.R. 38, National Reciprocity, needs to be heard in committee and sent to the House Floor as soon as possible
    * Rep. Goodlatte needs to cosponsor H.R. 38
    * National reciprocity is long overdue and NOW is the time to get the job done
    * The recent shooting at the ballpark in Alexandria shows the critical need for H.R. 38 for all citizens
    * Reciprocity works wherever it is tried: Virginia honors the permits from all other states, and without issue
    * President Trump has publicly stated that he would sign a national reciprocity bill

ACTION ITEM 2: PHASE 1B FOR THOSE WHO ARE NOT CONSTITUENTS OF BOB GOODLATTE

The rest of us must contact Chairman Goodlatte through the House Judiciary Committee phone line (there is NO email for the committee).

Please call 202-225-3951 and either leave a message, or BETTER, press option 2 to speak to a staff member.

    Talking points:

    * H.R. 38, National Reciprocity, needs to be heard in committee and sent to the House Floor as soon as possible
