I had to give $500 on top of my Rossi to pick up that Winchester. So of course, someone today on the SASS Wire was selling an original 1873 in 44-40 for $500. That went pretty quick :sad20:

It's funny you say that. Usually when I come across a deal like that, I'm short on cash and it slips right through my fingers:sad20:

I thought so. I found a box of 1940's or 50's era ammo my grandfather had (complete with 12 cartridges) for an older Remington rifle he had (not sure if it was a Model 81 or a pump). I really can't wait to whomp a buck or bear with it!

Top: Winchester 1886 in .33 WCF. It was made in 1912. This is the only full commercial box of .33 Winchester I have ever seen. Unfortunately, it was unopened until my cousin decided to be nosy one day.

Bottom: Winchester Model 71 Deluxe Long Tang with original Winchester peep sight. The .348 Winchester box is an original my great-grandfather bought with the gun brand-spankin' new in the late 1930's. It's completely original. It's taken more than it's fair share of Northern PA deer and black bears.

Beautiful, classic levers. Real family keepsakes. Impressive that they're in the fantastic shape that they seem to be despite their age. Thanks for sharing the pic.

I emailed a smith about finishing my 92 so it looks right, we'll be talking on the phone this afternoon. In 2015, I will be picking up a 73 (Winchester or Uberti) in 44-40 and a 66 in 32-20. For whatever reason, Uberti isn't making a 73 in 32-20??? I may have to pick up a 73 in .357 for "lost brass" SASS matches. Not thrilled about that, BP doesn't work well with straight walled cartridges as they don't seal well and there's a lot of blow-back.
