I went to Sharpshooters for some target practice while on my lunch break. As I was walking out, I spied a skinny barreled shotgun in the racks. A Remington 1100 in 28 gauge. I didn't have time to fill out the paperwork, so I had time to ponder this and check out GunBroker. After work, I stopped by and purchased said shotgun for $500.

That’s a great shotgun. Especially at $500. So much better than any O/U in that price range. You’ll love the lack of recoil. I hope you know shells are a little pricey. If money wasn’t an issue, I would shoot a ton of 28 ga shells. Since I reload 20 ga I can load a 3/4 oz 20 ga load making it feel and shoot like a 28 ga. Enjoy your purchase.

What I'd like to do is find a load of brass shells and reload them with black powder. But that would be messy cleaning up, so I will stick with smokeless powder. Until I can get a break action in 28 gauge.

Yeah, I don't know what the seller was thinking, most of these were getting double that on Gunbroker. It functions fine wth the four Rio shells that I used at the range there.

$116 for a case of 250 Winchester AAs at Cabela's. $16 for a box of 25. I got through 10 stations at Bull Run before I had to go to work. Wind was gusting pretty strong. Recoil about the same as a 9mm PCC. Screw in choke was backing out, looks like I'm going to be cleaning some threads.

I hope you know to not throw away those hulls. They’re worth $$$. Same goes for Remington STS hulls. After cleaning the choke tube and threads carefully I grease the choke tubes before reinserting as opposed to oil. I would much prefer a choke tube that is backing out to one that is stuck.

My inner brass rat came out for the first time at Bull Run today  I ended up finding the spent shells about 15-20 feet from my shooting position. Not sure if it's the shotgun or the wind today.

Another nice thing about O/U’s. No picking up the hulls. My buddies that shoot a lot of shells through an auto use something similar to this to pick up hulls. You’d be surprised how many hulls will stick to it at one time.

    Mojo stick.

Some of the regular autoloader shooters at Oxford have them.

I've seen sporting clays refs use them also. Keeps your back happy.

I already have one of those to pick up tools, nuts, and bolts I drop in engine bays and elsewhere. Now, I am sitting here wondering if it will work on factory AA and STS hulls. If a magnet works on those brass hulls, watch the electro magnet I have with me the next time I am at PGT&S. I'll hold that sucker over each trash can. Time to visit the garage and then the basement.

OP - very nice shotgun. Got my first 28 gauge 2 years ago and I really like the gauge. Of course, it is a Beretta A400 Action. Really wish Beretta would come out with a .410 semi, but the 28 will do in the meantime.

Edit to add: The magnet does not work on unprimed AA or STS hulls, but the Win 209 and Rem 209 primers have steel in them and the magnet works just fine on the hulls that are primed.
