I got this cool Grayling Kodiak Magnum in a trade and am interested in getting an approximate date and what kind of wood this is in the riser. It's in good shape with nicely faded - but clean - green glass.

I think I'm looking at a 1969, maybe, based on trying to look at serial numbers on the net, and I wonder if this riser is Bubinga or something else.

I'll have to go back and see where I can find the thread, but in some forum somewhere, I read that Bear had a somewhat unorthodox serial number system. From 1965-69, the first digit of the number was the year it was produced, but everything else changed monthly. After 1970, it apparently got even harder to follow.

Horseman, 1969 is correct. The only other possibility for a number like that would be 1964, the gray glass throws me slightly. I will check my book.

TopTech, early '70's. I'll have to look at my book to determine exact.

It's actually green glass that's faded to an olive color. It's a little deceptive in photos. It actually looked black in the first photos I saw of it before the trade was done.
