Would he run as independent and would he be able to takeaway enough votes to hurt a Rep or Dem Candidate

He has essentially no name recognition outside MD. It seems proximity to DC makes MD and VA pols all think they're national political figures.

This. O’Malley had to learn the hard way and there’s a MD rep who’s about to learn. Outside the beltway no one has any idea who they are.

It was pointed out to me that even as a running mate, an MD'er brings nothing to the table. Good news for those of us who'd like to never hear from O'M again.

And I can't imagine what platform he'd run on.

Exactly, MD is a gimme state for the Dems and 3 electoral votes. On the national stage it’s politically worthless. Same reason with NJ/CT etc. NY and CA still do well bc they get national news coverage and name recognition but the real money is on midwestern swing state people.

I held my nose in 2018. No way I would vote for him again, except to oust a sitting D congress person or senator.

His best talking point to promote himself is to the effect of " I can break the gridlock, and foster co-operation . I was a highly popular Governor , elected as a Republican in a heavily Democrat state . " Kind of a slimmer, less corrupt Chris Christie .

Of course the downsides are current near zero name recognition outside of Md , and being too left in actions to be conservative , but not radical enough for the true believer socialist .

Not that it makes a huge difference, but Maryland is 10 electoral votes.

He should run as a US state senator and replace Cardin or the other anti-gun ahole Maryland elected. Look at Mitt Romney he's now Senator of Utah.
