Anyone here have experience with a CMP Mossberg Model 44?

I just bought one from a co-worker and am having some issues with the magazine. When I cycle the bolt, the bolt seems to be pushing the magazine down just enough that after I fire the round and cycle the bolt again, the magazine is sitting low enough that the bolt slides right over the round, it doesn't even try to grab it out of the mag. If I push the mag up before I close the bolt, it'll pick up a round.

I called CMP for advice and they weren't able to help at all. I tried google and found some threads on other forums on this same subject. But, no one ever posted a solution. Lots of "try this" or "try that" with no definitive answer.

Magazines are $40 a pop and, while there are some parts available, I don't really want to spend a ton of cash on it hoping to get luck and fix it. If worse comes to worse, I'll keep the single shot mag block installed and use it as a single shot.
