Mine is probably less gooey as I make it using beeswax. It has a better consistency in the heat compared to bore butter or Crisco.

I use water pump grease to seal the chambers. Best thing I found to use, been using it for almost 20 years now. A big tub of this stuff goes a long way.
Doesn’t run much in warm weather. Gets hard in below freezing weather. In fact it’s punched holes in paper targets at 25 yards, when it’s super cold outside!

As for the OP, like others have said, get a 1858 Remington. Every Colt reproduction I’ve ever shot, shot high. You have to do some work on them to shot to point of aim. They are also more prone to “shoot lose”.

If you ever want to get a conversation cylinder to shoot 45 ACP or 45 Colt, the 1858, makes that so much easier to load and shoot.

Is this stuff water soluble? Where can you buy it?

    TIA,

Here are some black powder versions of popular firearms. Before you ask you can't swap cylinders.

I have one of those, the magnum version. Sometime ago, a guy made cylinders for them that shoot .22 Long Rifle. I have two of those also. :D

I would suggest that anyone interested in these buy a Earl Companion. Obviously it is longer but the better sights and sight radius are worth it. Mine is nice to play with but, with no front sight, it is really a belly gun.

    TIA,

I’m not really sure, if it’s water soluble or not. It was used in old vehicles. I was given a huge can of this stuff years ago, from a old guy that’s been shooting blackpowder revolvers for years. He told me it was the best stuff He’d ever used, and I have to agree. Works great, and I doubt I’ll ever use that entire can of grease in my lifetime, a little goes a long way. I just looked on a few websites, and it’s still available for sale.

Any chance you could post up a picture of the can?
