When accumulating parts for a vz52 project, I ended up with a spare barrel chambered in the original 7.62x45 caliber. It’s still got some life left in it, the rifling is decent. I’m thinking about holding onto it in case I end up with another one of these rifles that needs some love and build it into something like a police carbine using the chopped down stock I have laying around.

My question is, would it be viable to lop off about 6mm from the breech end and re chamber it in x39? Obviously I would have to shorten the operating rod/sleeve by the same amount that is cut off the barrel as well.

If anyone would need the barrel, let me know. I’m just trying to figure out what I could do with it

Mmm I don't think so. You'd have to cut it back to just one inch of chamber to clean and then it may be too wide for 7.62x39. Also, the groove diameter of x45 is .309", the x39 is .311" though quite a few rifles have worked in x39 with .308" grooves, i.e. Ruger.
