It seems that every Friday night I end up on Gunbroker or Buds and buy a new 1911. It's usually after a few Tito's vodkas. I've actually had to ask my wife to hide my phone and MacBook from me when I have a few cocktails.

In the last two months or so, I've bought:

    Nighthawk Custom GRP with upgrades
    Colt Special Combat Government
    Dan Wesson Silverback
    Dan Wesson Specialist Government

On Gunbroker I got outbid on a Nighthawk Costa Edition Government 45 at the last minute because I fell asleep. Good thing I did!

If Buds had anymore Nighthawks or Wilsons available, I may have done more damage. That's the only thing that kept me from buying another Nighthawk and or Wilson. I refuse to pay the crazy prices on Gunbroker for these two makers.

I may need to thin the herd a little. I'm thinking of selling my LWRC REPR (unfired) with many upgrades, but who knows.

The first step is admitting you have a problem.

The second step is to move on to single-action Colts, or maybe '73 Winchesters. Or vintage safari double guns.

I just feel irresponsible buying so many. I should be putting the money in an account for my daughter. I try to rationalize that I can always sell them in the future and not lose too much, as I keep my firearms in great shape.

I just have a general gun problem.

Me too. I didn't want to mention the other guns I've bought in the last year. Some of them I sold without even firing them. My FFL, a member on this site, thinks I'm nuts.

But it's this 1911 bug that scares me.

Not sure why you'd rather pay more on GB than go see Dan at Baltimore's Best Pawn for MDS pricing but, to each his own. The only time I use GB is when I know that one of our IP's absolutely doesn't have it/can't get it. Otherwise, GB is a hassle and always ends-up costing me $50-100 more than I could buy the same thing for locally.

For high-end, boutique 1911's, BBP is definitely the place to go.

You've got some very nice 1911's and if that's what you like to shoot, don't worry about it. I own a Dan Wesson and Sig 1911 and thoroughly enjoy them. My problem is caliber burnout. When I shoot the same caliber over and over and over again because I'm obsessed with the guns that fire it, my interest tends to wane. I keep my collection diverse because what goes around comes around. This week it's revolvers. Next week could be shotguns. The week after that could be 1911's.

Don’t think of it as a problem....think of it as contributing to your FFLs daughters college fund! Saying that he should give you a break on transfer fees. I too have this problem but so far it’s only an itch and not a rash.

Those Nighthawks you've got in-stock are beautiful but, those Springfield Custom Shop guns are every bit as nice.
For sure, it would be a tough choice. Can't go wrong either way.

I wasn’t aware of that shop. Thanks for the heads up. That said, I usually impulse buy while drinking cocktails.

I want to buy a Colt Special Combat Goverment in Hard Chrome, but can’t find one. Everyone I find is erroneously marked by Colt and is actually a Stainless Ionbond.

Good thing I quit drinking anything stronger than beer about 8 years ago. I'd get myself in deep do-do real fast by drunken window shopping on GB.

But as a 1911-fan, you are obligated to make a pilgrimage to the big blue temple in Finksburg. I'm guessing you didn't get the memo? You also need to check-out https://www.1911addicts.com/ because BBP has a lot of happy customers there, too. You'd love it. Nuttin' but 1911's 24/7.

If I were you, though, I'd approach Bob at Gunrunners in Downtown Frederick about the mismarked Colt Special Combat Government dilemma. You might need to get there by canoe at the moment so, I'd give him a call first and explain. Bob is one of the more Colt-knowledgeable FFL's in our area and he could probably assist with your search.

I have a long love-hate relationship with 1911's that quickly goes from totally obsessed to completely burned-out without any warning. It has been especially bad since purchasing a Walther PPQ 45 last year. That thing ruined me on just about every pistol chambered in .45 ACP. Whatever you do, don't get one of those things.

I went on the website and don’t see any Nighthawks. I’d love to see what they have.

BBP doesn't list its inventory online. They pretty much put everything up on MDS to give us first-crack at it.

I saw a Falcon and a Talon there yesterday, as well as the Springfields.

That's the link to the Springer Custom Shop guns.

But whatever ya do, seriously consider doing business with our IP's. Your wallet will thank you.
