My father is currently has this beauty. Just like yours, if you took yours and scrubbed off all the finish and then dropped it a few times!:lol2: The person it came from is what makes it. Serial is 191xx, is yours close to this?

Serial numbers are very close. Mine is 20xxx. I figure mine is January 1913. Yours 1912? Would you take a photo of the barrel? Incl the vertical at the rear of the barrel above the chamber? Very nice pistol you have.

Unfortunately Colt only kept records of when they shipped, not were made.
But according to records all of the 20,000:30,000 range were shipped between January and April of 1913,
to Rock Island Arsenal (IL), Benicia Arsenal (CA), San Antonio Arsenal (TX) and Springfield Armory.

BTW: Trailtoy's pop's pistol was shipped to Benicia Arsenal on January 15, 1913 (batch of 500 from 19001 to 19500).

I have another old colt, serial no 555xxx. From memory its 1918, blued. Army model, govt prop stamp right side. Orig hp intertwined barrel. Slide and receiver appear to match. Great grips and finish. No matching mag, but have a bunch of old mags and maybe. I’ll (my wife will) post pics. Anyone know the correct mag? No lanyard loop, but 2 toned? One tone? Had this in family since the 40s.

According to Poyer that should have the pinned base, dual-tone magazine without lanyard loop (aka "Type 4").
Used from ~125000 up to 735000 (WW2) so it's not as hard to find.

I thought 1911 was something humans were born with and knew about instinctively.

Like the need for Food, Water, Air, Warmth, Etc.

We need a new poll: "How Old Were You When You Learned About 1911".

I knew about 1911 in the womb.

Between birth and 5 years old.

Between 6 and 11 years old.

Between 12 and 17 years old.

Between 18 and 23 years old.

    LOL!

Just for S&G's, here's one very close, S/N 21218 and check the barrel marking on it:
    H on hood, no P.

Someone forked over big $$ very quickly for it (it just went up tonight)
even though it's in not so great shape (IMHO) and initialz scratched into the slide.
    https://www.pre98.com/shop/our-newe...nal-bright-sharp-example-rare-barrel-marking/
That marking appears proper for a 1913. The P for proof did not appear until a couple years later when proof rds eere provided to the manuf. earlier, the H appearee on the vertical of the hood, all from memory. Thanks for posting.
