As was pointed out by some Quinn supporters, he never really got into this race. A strong 3rd party option still helps a weaker candidate win. The history of third party proves this. I liked Quinn's position on issues. But, he was DOA in this state's political climate. I realize where this state is headed and it's not pretty.
It was never realistic that Quinn was going to win, and I would argue that it was never realistic that Hogan was going to lose unless some scandal emerged (which never did). So one could have not joined anti-2A Democrats that voted for Hogan (throwing support to a candidate moving the state Republican party further left) and instead joined pro-2A voters supporting Quinn.

At least now we can expect a widened version of the Red Flag bill :sad20:

You know they will try .

This could actually been an opportunity. Ignoring all the rights violations, even the spirit of this law is flawed. I've always believed that taking the taking the "perp's" guns away leaves an already allegedly dangerous person triggered, pissed, and free to "strangle that bitch" who got his guns taken away. If he's really an "extreme risk," he ought to be locked up. (Isn't that "common sense?")

What if we push the replacement bill to leave the guns, but take away the "bad guy." Now, obviously nobody wants to go to jail on the whim of a jilted snowflake...but going to jail has to bring a level of due process, right? Most of the country wouldn't give two turds about some rightwing gun nuts losing their guns, but locking people up without due process is going to get some national attention.

Plus, it would level the playing field. Even the anti's could get red flagged (and a lot of them probably deserve it!).

The Moms Demanded Action, let's give it to them.

    just a thought.

How? Hogan had negative coattails. The MD Democratic Party sent out mailers targeting incumbent Republican legislators contrasting them to Hogan and Hogan's support of issues important to Democrats. The incumbent Republican that I received the mailer about lost. As did other Republicans. Who's going to introduce legislation to amend the bill to limit its scope? On the flip side, if they strengthen it, even if Hogan somehow now says he will oppose it (very little political cost), he's even more easily overridden.

Because it's under the guise of strengthening it. This new, tougher version involves jail time...you know, for the children. The Democrats should love the idea of another way to throw gun owners in jail.

So far, no absentee ballots have been counted. I'm curious to see how those votes spread.

Out of about 2,100,000 votes, figure a third are actual Republicans. That's about the ratio here in MD.

So that leaves about 1,400,000 democrats. Hogan got (so far) about 1,200,000 votes. So something like 500,000 of Hogan's total were Dems.

That means that something like 36% of the MD Dems can be considered moderates, who could be considered rational beings. That's actually not a bad deal, especially in a state that is pretty rabidly Leftist. It indicates to me that there is a shift going on in MD politics, trending toward moderation.

In 2014 it was a much closer race, possibly because Brown was merely inept, rather than extremist? Whatever the reason, Hogan seems to have gotten through to a number of knee-jerk Ds over the last four years. A slow movement toward the center is a far better thing than the plunge into Socialism that Jealous was offering.

I voted for Hogan, Wolf, Phukan, Campbell and Floreen. I like Franchot, but it's my habit to vote against incumbents generally. They have too easy a path to retain their offices, and they need humility. Despite everything, and all my campaign money, the only one who made it into office was the one I didn't send a nickel to.

I sent a fair amount to McSally in AZ; I'm hoping I was able to purchase at least one candidate for high office.

This is an anonymous poll, but feel free to bump the thread in case you want to also post who you supported or if you want to hazard a prediction of who will be elected and by what margin.

Please save the back-and-forth justifications of why you voted one way for one of the existing debate threads.

Curious to get a sense of the 2A community perspective, at least those that frequent MDS, given Hogan signing gun control legislation and signaling that he will support additional measures in the future.

We've heard the lesser of two evils argument, that Jealous is a greater danger when it comes to 2A protections and other issues, that protest votes are counterproductive, etc. No need to get into recrimination here.

Apologies to Tapatalk folks that can't see the poll results or vote (unless they use a web browser).

So what is the pulse of the community, and who do you think will win and by how much?

Totally agree but, the poll is anonymous. No obligation to share how you voted with a follow-up post.

But are ballots truly 'secret' anymore? I'm beginning to wonder after this latest shitshow. The way I was targeted by MD Democrats (as a registered Independent) for regular calls and text messages has me doubting the confidentiality of voter's lists in Frederick County. It would be interesting to compare notes with other registered voters because I know I wasn't the only one.

This article might interest you if I'm reading your post correctly:

Your friends’ voting history and party are public. This app will show you

That’s precisely the kind of reaction Mikey Dickerson envisioned for VoteWithMe, an app drawing on public voting records to show whether friends and family in your contact list are participating in America’s democracy. The way it works is simple. Everyone’s party registration and voting history are a matter of public record. While each state has different rules about accessing this data, companies aggregate and sell voter profiles to campaigns, political parties, and advocacy groups. Similar to the way Zillow made once-obscure real estate prices and history available for anyone to browse, VoteWithMe is making voting records easily accessible to the public for the first time.

I could care less if somebody knew who I voted for.

I am not ashamed of who I vote for, nor will I be shamed for who I vote for.

anyone doesn't like it, they can go eat a bag of dicks.

I took longer to vote this time around then any other time I can remember. Did all the down ticket people and questions first. Voted for Franchot as always because despite being a D he is very fiscally responsible with my money, plus the fact that he used to piss off O'Malley on the regular gives him bonus points. I am not, nor can I be a single issue voter. That being said, my last vote was more against Jealous then for Hogan. I don't hold out any hope for this State under Hogan but I know damn sure that we would have been royally screwed had Jealous won. I had great hopes that some how Wolf would have pulled the greatest upset of all time but sadly no.
