    governor vetoed bill that prevented colleges and universities from inquiring about criminal records for admissions.

    "Prohibiting specified institutions of higher education from using information about the criminal history of applicants on admissions applications; allowing an institution of higher education to use a third-party admissions application that contains questions about the criminal history of the applicant under specified conditions; prohibiting an institution of higher education from automatically or unreasonably restricting a student's admission based on that student's criminal history; etc."

    Help me understand who in their right mind (or left mind) would think this would be OK?

    Not the same thing as race. And they do discriminate based on income since you gotta pay tuition somehow. The universities, just like employers, certainly have a right to know who they're allowing on their property.
