    She's a dirty girl.
Friend inherited this. I cringed when I saw that someone scraped it with sandpaper or something to take the bluing off. Did not affect how it shot though.
He's debating if he'd do anything to the finish or just leave it.
We have yet to Date it.

    AAARRRRRRGGGG!
If that revolver has a serial number that starts with a "V" (as in V99999), It is a Victory Revolver... Made by S&W during WWII, V signified "Victory against the AXIS Powers"... and it looks like one of the pistols in the Parkerized finish that has been sanded down (read "ruined"). Another tell tale feature is the extra pin that you see below the cylinder release.
Here is a picture of what it SHOULD look like. Production started on 1/1/42 and ran to the end of the war... S&W then began the serial numbers "VS". If it has a "US GOVERNMENT" roll stamp, it was issued to the USN or Merchant Marines. No roll stamp means it was issued to the OSS (more rare).

This one (Parkerized) has no roll stamp...

the persec wolf grey holster finally came in. I was impressed with the quality of the black holster they made for my m&p45 w/ tlr1 & threaded barrel mold, so I figured I'd get one for the nonthreaded barrel without the light. They had a "grey friday" sale a little bit ago and so I picked one up. I like the gray better than black anyway. Retention is great and fit/finish is great. I'll probably pickup some wings for it for owb, as the factory belt loops are too deep and don't pull the gun in as close as it could be, but I'm happy with it for OWB use. It's very comfortable, but not as concealable as the hybrid holster I have now for IWB carry. Of course, a button-up shirt over a t-shirt is all you need and the thing is gone.

That might be worth sending back to S&W for a refinishing job. It maybe a good shooter, but has very little value because of its condition.

here is my Model 64-5 from the S&W Group Buy #2. I'll post my newest one as soon as I get it. this is a police trade in and has police markings :D

FIVEPOINTSTAR: I got a kick out of seeing your LORCI 19, because I've got LORCI 20 (see post below)

Mine came from a dealer at the Annapolis Gun Show about 3 weeks after you posted the pic below on September 4, 2012 (Posts 147 & 147).

Here's LORCI 20, which sat right next to LORCI 19 (above) in a prison gun rack 345 miles from here--only to be reunited here on MDS.

I routinely take these old Stainless Smiths and shine them up if they are not collectible. These two M-64's are 20 years old this year.

For those that don't know, LORCI stands for the Lorain Correctional Institute in Ohio.

My latest pick up from another member here:

A Smith & Wesson 442 in .38 Special. Thanks to helpful posts on the S&W Forum, I am able to determine that this no-dash model was made 20 years ago this month--in the Fall of 1995.

Note the pin behind the cylinder guard that was dropped in 1996 and the old style flat latch cylinder release.

We just picked up this Model 10-10 in .38 special yesterday. Sorry for the cellphone pic - no artistry. The gun looks hardly shot with holster wear.

Keeping in sync with the last couple of S&W in 38 Special posts, here are a couple of mine (Model 64-8 and Model 60 no dash) joined in the last two shots by a 686. Would love to add some blued revolvers to the mix.
