10,000,001st Remington Model 870, current price is $3K

It has won thousands of clay target competitions, accompanied millions of hunters into the field and captured the respect and trust of countless sportsmen and sportswomen. Reaching the 10,000,000 production mark in April 2009, the Remington Model 870 pump action shotgun is the most popular shotgun ever made. And now, the 10,000,001st Model 870 will be featured as the 2010 SHOT Show shotgun as the Model 870 begins its march towards its next milestone.

While earlier milestone 870 s were not available to the public Remington executives decided to give all Model 870 fans and owners an equal opportunity to bid on this truly historic firearm--saluting the importance of millions of hunters and shooters to the success of the 870.

The 10,000,001st Model 870 is tastefully and appropriately engraved by the artisans at Baron Engraving in Trumbull, CT. The engraving pattern is based on research on earlier Model 870 milestone guns, especially the 2,000,000th . That gun was engraved by Remington custom engraver Bob Runge. He based his English scroll engraving on work that he and his father had originally done for Parker Bros in Meriden, Connecticut.

According to Baron President, David Baron, The oldest record we can find of a richly engraved Model 870 milestone gun was the 2,000,000th 870 Wingmaster engraved by well-know Remington engraver Bob Runge in late 1973-early 1974. We think it highly appropriate to base our work on the highly impressive original patterns used by Mr. Runge nearly four decades ago.

The left side of the receiver carries the serial number 10,000,001 and the hand-engraved gold inscription First of the Next 10,000,000 .

The right side of the receiver features hand scroll engraving surrounding gold-engraved images of a hunter and a clay target shooter, honoring the 870 s popularity and accomplishments in the hunting field and on trap and skeet fields.

The stock is fancy American walnut selected by the artisans at the Remington Custom Shop and then approved by Remington executives.

The gun is 12 gauge with 3 chambers and 28 barrel.

Remington is America s oldest gunmaker and has proudly manufactured the Model 870 since its introduction in 1950 and every year since then. Although Remington introduced many variations of the Model 870 throughout the years to suit the specific needs of a wide variety of users including hunters, trap shooters, left-handers and youth as well as platforms designed for use by law enforcement agencies and military worldwide; the Model 870 has remained true to its original design. Gun owners everywhere appreciate the value and quality of the Model 870, making it the shotgun of choice in gun cabinets across the country.

The gun is equipped with a special presentation case that will also go to the high bidder.
