Merlin lookin good. Did they give you any crap at that range for cheek welding the gun? I heard recently that a range officer advised a shooter he wasn't allowed to cheek weld the brace on his ar pistol in there, pretty lame if true.

    At which range?

I don't think they pull that crap at freestate.

    Indeed it was freestate.
Yes that pic was from Freestate where I'm a member.
I have never had issues shooting any gun at the range.
Cheek weld, no cheek weld, no problem...
As it was noted in another post, rarely is there a RSO in the range while you're shooting.
Must have been an isolated incident or a possible misunderstanding while instructions were being given.

Just an update on this. I went to continental today for a while and I happened to ask the range officer what his stance on braces was and he said they should be used for pistol style shooting only. I specifically mentioned cheek welding the braces and he said the ATF said it was a no-no. I mentioned that their opinion letter mentioned shouldering the braces and what about the buffer tube attachments that are specifically for cheek welding and he said I was stretching it a bit.

To his defense he made it fairly clear that he obviously wasn't an atf agent but did point out the LEO frequents the range and it would suck to be a poster child for the grey area in this law.

I haven't seen anything that says you can't cheek weld a brace but I also haven't seen anything that says explicitly that you can.

Should I be avoiding this place? I've been to freestate a few times but it seemed like it was more expensive than continental. I usually do my shooting outdoors when its not freezing.

IMHO - Continental doesn't allow rifle shooting so I wouldn't really care what their take was on braces, cheek welds, etc.

Most MD LEO don't know the federal laws and I've got buddies who r so I'm speaking from experience. Also they don't really care...

At freestate the attitude is enjoy shooting your guns in a safe manner. They don't have any atf agents working there. ;)

I have had several issues over the years with continental, which I won't go into here for the sake of time and not to bad mouth them. I just choose not to go.

I was a member at Freestate for a while. No major complaints about the range.

Now I can shoot outside on private property most of the time so I do that.

Continental is a mile from my house, I go to Freestate.

You can shoot pistol caliber rifles at Continental. I built a 9 mm AR just for shooting there.

I have a much better time at Freestate and I get to shoot my rifles. The atmoshere is much more relaxed.

If I was a beginning shooter I would appreciate the tighter controls at Continental.

Back on topic boys. I put 200 rounds down range out of the P-01 today on it's first range trip. Gun is just amazing. I don't love the sights though, and the sight picture makes accuracy somewhat difficult for me as the front site doesn't 'fill' the sight picture of the rear site.

I'll toss mine into the ring:

CZ-52 with replacement grips and the Wolf Spring and Pin:

Please note, I have the original grips still.

Here is my CZ collection. The P-01 is a good shooter and Redhead shotgun is hard to beat for the money. The VZ58 isn't a CZ but it's like a cousin to them.
