    OK, calling ye ole crufflers!

I have several 22 Target Pistols in my C&R collection but zero (working) 22LR Rifles. What are some C&R Rifles to look for when scanning the gun shows?
I've heard of the Winchester 52, what else is there? Something that I"m likely to actually see out there. My first choice would be something bolt action.

Remington 37 and 40 for target guns. There are lots of other C&R .22s out there. I’ve also got a Win75 and a Mossburg 144.

I'd add the Winchester 67 and 69 bolt-action rifles to the list, along with the semi-auto Model 63. The Marlin 39A is the oldest shoulder-fired gun in continuous production in the world. It began as the Model 1891 and became the 39A in 1939. Anything produced before 1968 would be C&R. My personal favorite version is the straight-stocked Mountie version.

My second C&R purchase was a Mossberg 46M.

You can also look for 22LR trainer rifles. I have a single shot Mosin trainer I picked up from Lou several years ago.

The Cadillac's of the 22 rimfire target rifles would be the Winchester 52's and the Remington 37 and 40X's. Of the Winchester 52's the 52C is arguably the best although it is tough to beat a nice 52B, top any of them with a nice vintage Unertl and you have an incredibly accurate paper driller.

I've got a very nice Remington 40XB with Redfield Olympic sights for sale, 1200.00, made in 1967.

A step down from the 52's and 40X's would be the Winchester 75's and Remington 513T's, these were the less expensive at the time rifle for position shooting and nice examples without optics can be found around 500.00.
With optics can go for well over 1000.00. One thing to remember when looking at vintage sporting arms any modification such as extra holes for receiver mounted scopes can bring down the value. Later models did come with grooved receivers and factory holes and will be easier to mount a modern scope, later models can be more desirable because of this.

I had a pdf of an old Army manual that divided .22 rifles into two groups:
    • Match rifles: Winchester 52 and Remington 40X
    • Target rifles: Winchester 75, Remington 513T and Mossberg 44/144

My son was getting to NRA Smallbore shooting back in the mid-2000s, which is the same time when the CMP was selling off the Army's inventory of .22 Trainers. I was able to purchase a few at the time, and was lucky enough to get a Win 52C, along with a Rem. 513T. I really wish I had applied for a 40X. Later, I bought a H&R M12, is a great single shot match rifle, but handicapped by a 4"x4" of a birch stock.

Tons of neat stuff to look at in collectible .22s. I'm on the hunt for a nice Winnie 1903, 63, 57 and an early pre A 52. You have sporting, target and military training .22s to choose from. A huge universe.

For pure fun one of the old "gill guns" is tough to beat. They will be marked Savage, Springfield or Stevens Model 87 (can be 87 87A or 87B). A little finicky for ammo in semi but tones of fun when the run right. Usually run $125-$200.

Very nice win 75. Have one with lyman sights, no scope, buried in the safe i used on the high school team in the early 60s, and before. Also buried a rem 514 and a mossberg semi auto.

I personally lust for a nice pump gallery rifle, Win 62 or similar. Maybe the exchequer will afford it this fall; I'll be recovering from past excesses and prior obligations until then.
