I'm toying with the idea of using grip or skateboard tape to cover up the slide cutout on my Glock 34 (to keep debris out) and also to act an aid in performing press checks with the front of the slide.

Any thoughts on if this is a good or bad idea? Any suggestions of tapes to try? Right now, my concerns are whether tape will hold up to the heat and what it will do to the inside of my holster.

If its on the top of the slide it wont interfere with anything. I do the same for my 17 and 19.
If you put it on the sides of the slide it will eat your holster or skin depending on if it contacts your body when its in the holster.

Game gun or serious use gun?
Game gun try it out. See what happens. Possible jam causer but no big deal. Front cocking serrations are usually milled into the front of the slide.
I used Black Magic skateboard tape. Very grippy and abrasive. Might not be best for delicate hands. Properly applied it shouldn't come off in a holster.

Try this. Its made for bare skin. I use it on my work gun and off-duty. The KSC brand is rebranded 3m because 3m doesn't manufacture that size.

That rock tape will chew up any holster it comes in contact with very easily.
