Came across a couple of 91/30s that had the scope mount holes filled in the receiver. I presume these are exsnipers. Question is why were they de-sniperd?
Maybe they did not pass the sniper test? Are they of any more value? Thanks
They were all rebuilt after WWII, and there doesn't seem to be any particular reason why the ex-snipers were not returned to original configuration. I've got three or four of them, and it appears that the trigger group, receiver, and barrel, were kept together during the rebuild process. They all have much better trigger pulls than the average M-N, and one of them is as nice as any rifle that I own.
Real nice rifles, but rarity varies by year and maker, 1942 Tula is rarest for ex-pu, also 1942 Izhevsk is sought after, anything past that is common until you get to postwar ex-snipers, those are really rare. Anything before 1942 is also very desirable.
