Australian, not Austrian.

It screams All Original.

The stock colors are perfect matches.

Have head space checked. You can buy different size bolt heads if you need to correct HS.

PS: Leave that yellow paint on there. Character!!! And I know it's rude to ask, but..............$?

You did very well, price wise, in my opinion. I've seen them from a hundred lower to a hundred higher.

I haven't come across an SMLE yet that I would drop coin on. They're usually beat up with loose replacement stocks and trashed bores.

Not a doubt in my mind that I would have taken that piece home with me.

It also looks like there was white paint on the butt stock at one point as well. I can't tell if these little spots are transfer from another source or if it had a white sripe too.

Nice Cadet rifle. The import mark on the right side of the receiver, does it say JJ?

Love those stock markings.

Never sand the wood. Just go through it mechanically, lube it up, and wipe it down.

Hell of a buy.

Where exactly would I find the import markings?

Is that good or bad? Would one from JJ be more desirable?

80's import mark it's much better then the billboard of today. Now, you need a green painted Cadet and a red one.

Nice older import! That Lithy ended it's life as a cadet training rifle. The color of the paint around the muzzle denoted the condition of the bore. There would also have been a stripe around the buttstock, sometimes that's missing (in your case someone removed it). Anyway, yellow (caution) denotes worn but still safe. Green and would denote excellent condition, white was good condition. I rarely see a red mark, usually what you'll see is the yellow mark with a "DP" stamp denoting downgrade to Drill Parade use only. Makes sense as the next step down from worn but serviceable would be to retire to DP use.
At $350 you did very well. You can see where it was inspected and probably refurbished post war by the stamp large "46" stamp in the buttstock. Don't remove that finish! Just clean and enjoy. It's a great first piece in an Enfield collection. Congratulations!

Thank you mawkie that great info, so now I have to either make headspace gages or find someone who can let me borrow a set. Unless it would be wize to have a smith check it out completely?
