Bought this a while back with some other items from a seller who had it for a while. Mauser 98 bayo? Any collector’s value?

The leather frog is probably worth more than the bayonet.

I believe it is Austro/Hungarian but i’m sure someone with more knowledge will be along shortly

Pretty common, would have value if there were some provenance to it. Original leather Frog is rarer than the bayonet. Lots of them for sale if you google and you can estimate value that way.

What are the markings on the spine and other side of the blade, near the crossguard? This looks like a standard SG84/98-III to me, and collector value would depend on the maker marks as asked for. It's hard to tell, do the serial numbers on the blade and scabbard match?

It looks like blade has been sharpened which would lower the value. If markings match on bayonet and scabbard retail on ebay would be between $115 and $160; a little more if blade has not been sharpened. If markings do not match $75 to $110

It looks like it may be missing the ring that fits on the barrel, unless this one came without one. However, all the ones I have seen have the ring (or whatever its called).

OK, the manufacturer code is S/155K, which has been identified to be E. & F. Hoerster, Solingen, between 1934 and 1937. There might be a 2-digit number on the (top of the) spine next to the cross guard, which would be the year of manufacture.

The back side of the leather frog should have a maker name stamped into the leather.

IMHO that's a very desirable set (I really like the pre-war ones), matching numbers a definite plus, but worth less since the blade has been sharpened and appears to have an idiot mark like those made by a dremel.

I haven't bought a set like that one in years, so I'm of no use in putting a value on it.

OTOH, I'd pay $150 for it, sharpening and all.

Thanks all, and mr Brown. Inbelieve there is a maker’s name on the frog, but i won’t be able to look until next weekend for it and a date on the spine. This bayo was an after thought in terms of buying this and i ventured $100 and the seller agreed. I don’t collect bayos. But I have a 1939 mod 98 ( russian capture from the days when classic’s original owner had many 98s in his inventory).
