This is what happens in a "Gun Free Liberal Paradise." Mexico is the unnamed model of the gun grabbers. Kinda like Chiraq with palm trees.

EDIT: Also note the "Federal Police." Sound familiar?

"Mexico is massacring its citizens and nobody seems to have noticed"

This time it is impossible to look the other way. The Mexican government is normally adept at managing public opinion so the responsibility for the violence and human rights violations ripping apart the country falls on the shoulders of local officials or organized crime groups. But on June 19th that narrative was broken under the heavy weight of the facts.

The press originally reported a “clash between teachers and police” in the town of Nochixtlán in the southern state of Oaxaca. The authorities claimed their agents were unarmed and the protesters had fired on them first. The new U.S. Ambassador to Mexico, Roberta Jacobson, was carefully neutral in her first public evaluation of the incident, stating simply that she “lamented the loss of human lives.”

The fruits of corruption. Mexico should be a peaceful, vibrant and prosperous. It's poverty and violence are inexcusable. Until corruption is curbed it will continue. BTW, same thing is true in the US. All the places with violence issues are the same places where corruption is common. Chicago, Baltimore, etc.

So if civilians can't own firearms, how did they shoot first at the federales?

A common misconception is that firearms are illegal in Mexico and that no person may possess them.[3] This belief originates due the general perception that only members of law enforcement, the armed forces, or those in armed security protection are authorized to have them. While it is true that Mexico possesses strict gun laws,[4] where most types and calibers are reserved to military and law enforcement, the acquisition and ownership of certain firearms and ammunition remains a constitutional right to all Mexican citizens and foreign legal residents;[5] given the requirements and conditions to exercise such right are fulfilled in accordance to the law.

I guess they just need to get a HQL (hunting qual license) like here in MD?

Negative, in Mexico a citizen is allowed to own 1 semi auto pistol (largest legal caliber is .380) which the license takes about 6 months to acquire, are allowed to purchase 50 rounds a year, and need licenses to purchase rifles and shotguns which are also restricted to how many you can own.

Oh and there's 1 gun store near or in Mexico City.

It's often easier to slip the federale a few pesos for something out of the evidence locker.
