Not Far Enough from the City
I have never had an issue buying anything at the BP here in Virginia.

You sir have the good fortune to be 150 miles and what amounts to an entire world away from here in Richmond. Hit the Bass Pro here, and don't be surprised if you hear this voice saying

"Toto, I don't think we're in Richmond anymore."

I have never had an issue buying anything at the BP here in Virginia.

    The Key word being "VIRGINIA".
Unfortunately, here in Maryland we have some ridiculous gun laws. Our second amendment rights have been eaten, and then Crapped out by our liberal lawmakers. Then what we have left to work with is......well use your imagination.
Now Bass pro shops. A major (Privately Held) Jumbo outdoor retailer, has a legal department to match its physical size. And they take every sentence within the written firearm laws of Maryland, and create steps and measures attempting to avoid any Possible lawsuits involving their sales of firearms. Or at the very Least, allow the company to wiggle out of them. It's my guess this creates additional paperwork, or procedures the staff at Bass Pro need to complete before sending or after receiving form 77R..
Or they could very well possibly take applications until they have a set amount to submit. OR maybe they only actually submit them certain days of the week.
The representative that did the paperwork with me said MSP would have my App. The very next day. I am going to be asking a lot of questions when I finally do pick up the pistol. Not sure if I'll get any truthful answers.
Not that it'll do me any good. Because I really will never buy there again. But I'll post what I find out on here for anyone else interested.

    me either!!

Back before SB281 and that dumb casino, I received a BP $50 giftcard. So I thought I might be interested in the Sig 2022 Pro. I stopped by one day and they had one and the Glock 19. After handling both I started the paperwork for the Glock. I mentioned how I wish they had one with a factory threaded barrel. The sales guy was going on and on about how firearms with threaded barrels were illegal to sell in this state and even if they were legal BP wouldn't sell them. We argued about whether they were or were not legal and he says "well they be illegal soon because they are in NY" or something like that. After coming back to pickup my Glock (and doing the walk of shame) I haven't been back since. Later that year I got more gift cards to BP. So I was in the market for a Stoeger shotgun. I called instead of going there and they didn't have what I wanted. So I asked if it could be ordered since they are a Stoeger dealer. Whoever on the other side of the phone took my info and said their "firearm specialist" (whatever that is) would call me back. Guess who never got a call back? So I call them after about two weeks and I have to go through the whole dance again. To end a long story I never got my Stoeger and I still have $200 worth of BP gift cards!!! I'll be going to Tennessee later this year and may try to use them there but if their BP is the same as the one here I'll just be stuck with BP gift cards.

I would call the store in Tennessee before waisting your time. I tried to purchase a 10/22 that was on sale at BP in Myrtle Beach and they told me to go pound sand. No firearm sales to MD residents.

Good Grief that figures, even for a 10/22!!!

maybe I can pick up some mags (if they don't have a problem with that).

    :mad54:

Yep, the guy at the counter said that they were losing sale after sale due to the store policy. The mags (what few that had in stock) were all way overpriced.

Except for those five looooooong months in the summer and fall of 2013, BassPro is nice because it's a one-stop-shop. When they're stocked well.

They have some great sales on long guns at times. Browning X-Bolt for $550.00 comes to mind.

The handguns seem to be MSRP or higher. Like they don't really want to sell them. The no HQL-no touch policy is a bit over the top. Like everyone says. Their shop-their rules.

Counter staff is usually very friendly and helpful. They may not know every thing about every gun, but who does. That's what research is for. Except for those who want to be spoon fed.

The only other store I can think of that has a huge mix of stuff for different types of shooting and accessories is Clyde's Sport Shop off of exit #9/695.

I gotta shop at BassPro cuzz all I get for gifts are oodles of BassPro gift cards.

I like the bass pro here. The only other local outdoor stores are a couple of Dicks which don't impress me

I stopped buying firearms there when they demanded to see my HQL before taking a handgun out of the case for me to look at.

It seems more and more shops are doing this. I guess they don't want to waste their time on someone who cannot buy. But on the other hand, the gun they show you may be the one to persuade you to get and HQL so a potential sale lost. The things I hate about BPS is the trigger lock so you can't get a good feel for the gun and the frustrating computer system they have for filling out paperwork along with their own set of paper work. Bought an AR there once because I stumbled on a great sale and they were picking up the sales tax and offering another 10% if you filled out a CC app. I promptly canceled the CC after I received it.

I don't hate the place, but I don't buy guns there. Frankly my biggest issue with it is the crowds. I tend to avoid Arundle Mills in general, so when I go there once or twice a year I swing in to BP to get anything there that I really need and then move in again quickly.

In all fairness. I figured I would post that I Just got a call from Bass Pro, and my Handgun paperwork came back. And I can go pick it up. So if they submitted the paperwork the following day, it took 10 straight days. Well that's counting today. But they just opened. Ok it wasn't nearly as bad as I expected.
I guess they just tell everyone 11 business days, so they don't expect it earlier, and when they call sooner, they look better.
Nothing like going to Bass Pro on a Saturday!
