It would blow my mind if the trap field doesn't have rules prohibiting the use of a 10 gauge

    From the USAshooting.org webpage.

    9.4.2.1 Types of Shotguns
All types of smoothbore shotguns, including semi-automatics, but
excluding pump action shotguns, may be used, provided their
caliber does not exceed 12 gauge. Shotguns smaller than 12
gauge may be used. Shotguns must not have a camouflage finish.

I believe in the buy once cry once motto.

When I first started out, I bought a Feanchi Instinct L, which I would classify as middle grade. And, while the gun was more accurate than I was, I really wanted a Beretta. Well 3 years later, after selling the Franchi, I finally got my Silver Pigeon.

Too bad I do not shoot as much anymore, but I love this shotgun.

There were plenty of camo and pump guns that I saw.....

As well as limits on velocity and shot size.

I know the poster was joking but FYI here are the rules at the club close to me. That 26" min knocks out 3 of my 5 guns :(
    SHOTGUN AND AMMO RESTRICTIONS

    •No shot larger than 7.5.

•Barrel length must be at least 26".

•Shot must be no more than 1200 fps or 3 dram equivalent.

It's rare but Ive seen a Perazzi or two at the recreational weekend shoots. Definitely impressive the amount of hours that go into making them.

Tristar, Dickinson, Baikel and other that are sub $600. Most are good starter guns. If you get hooked, you'll want to move up after the cheaper guns start firing both barrels with one trigger pull. Scares the hell out of you, too... LOL

Had both barrels go off with an old Sears Ranger O/U that was passed down from Grandfather to father to me. I was about 15yrs old and boy did that make an impression on me :shocked4: ... It was kind of a long shot so I pulled the back trigger first figuring it was a tighter choke. Never did that again.

I was talking about a single trigger gun. The first time it happened to me years ago when shooting sporting clays, it scared the hell out of me. At the time, I didn't even know they could do that... LOL

OP said he had shot trap exactly once so I figured maybe he was not clear on the various rules. It's a big bummer to drive to the range and not have any ammo.

I understand that "rules are rules" but that 26" minimum barrel length doesn't make sense to me. People can be just as dumb with a long barrel as a shorter one.

From what I've been told from the folks at PG County Trap and Skeet about the barrel length is, the shorter barrels have a much larger spread at the trap house and end up damaging the houses. Imagine the spread at 25 yards with a 590 Cruiser... LOL

That sort of makes sense. I've seen a trap house that took a direct hit. It was hysterical, and made me happy to know that I wasn't the worst shooter there.

My opinion is that it doesn't even make much sense about the noise either. I think in reality these places want sporting guns shooting the disciplines (hence the 26" barrel, basically minimum field barrel length), not a bunch of guys who just got done playing Call of Duty show up with their 18" 870's and 590s "hut hut hut hut" on the 16 yard line with red dot sights and flashlights.

I've always wanted to shoot a round of skeet with a revolver using shotshells.
