There are so many things wrong with that article I don't even know where to begin. Just another hit piece from the NY Times

Consider the source...the NYT lost all credibility about anything a long time ago. The antis will grab onto it though and try banning certain calibers...gun control by any means and with any excuse.

They'll sh*t bricks when they hear of the 10mm.

    ETA: nope, .45 still wins.

    Ha! Take that unbelievers.

The dreaded .455 Eley man stopper...…….according to the NYT Glock will be making a compact with a carbon barrel that cant be detected by metal detectors in this horrendous round.

So. By their logic, an AR pistol is no more dangerous than Grandpa's .22 Iver Johnson.

Yup. These "experts" would probably prefer to NOT to be shot w/ a "large 45" acp round averaging about 300 ft lbs instead of a "medium" Buff Bore TAC XP 9mm +P+ 500 ft lbs of energy. Either one would ruin your day but FFS.

Not going to read this but presumably they are going to give up on ARs and start trying to ban old 45-70 Government lever guns.

I'm putting this here because the story only discusses handgun rounds. It also erroneously says "bigger" bullets while calling a 9mm a medium and a .357 magnum a large.
Just one of the moronic assertions from the article ...

“In general, the criminals who are using guns in crime do want the higher-caliber, more lethal weapons, and want the newest and sexiest,” said Roseanna Ander, the founding executive director of the Crime Lab at the University of Chicago. “But there is a big markup, and they sometimes can’t get them.”

Sounds like this is out of her derriere. For the discerning criminal with options, do they want carry around a S&W Model 500 revolver or a lighter and more concealable Glock 19 with loads of capacity? Question answers itself.

As per the "other" category in the table that had the highest lethality (83% ... probably includes 44 Mag), it also was very low in terms of usage. Kind of contrary to the assertion in the quoted text. Maybe there was actually a correlation with firearms that are generally available (and thus, the high representation of 9mm) vs a quest to get the biggest projectile out there.

I guess the FN FiveSeven with those tiny 30 grain 5.7x28 rounds must be of reduced lethality too.
