My first handgun was a S&W Model 19 with a 6" barrel...still have it. I have a couple of other 6" .357 revolvers but tend to shoot 4" revolvers more. For .357 use I think a 6" gun is the way to go.

Like you, I've wanted a 586 with a 6" barrel for 20+ years. I bought a 686 (Talo edition) with a 5" barrel and while I love it, it still tends to be a little front heavy. When i get a 586, it will be a 4" barrel

It is front heavy. I've gotten used to it. I love the fact it was supposed to be the Python killer.

I'll shoot my 586 forever. I'm not sure I could afford a Python these days.

4 inch is great to carry.
6 inch is a lead laser and legal to hunt with.
I have gotten rid of my 6 inch 686 only because I have 2 .44 magnums over 6 inches and a 10mm I can hunt with.
If I did not have them I would have a 6 inch .357.
I would NOT own another Taurus and am not crazy about the new Smiths.
The last 2 revolvers have been Ruger.
    If I was you I'd look at getting a 6 inch GP100.

I've own several .357 mag's over the years all double action 4" barrel. My brother preferred his SA 6" barrel. I never really cared to shoot his, seemed way too unwieldy. Also prefer over sized grips on the S&W's, I don't have large hands, but the factory grips seem too small.

Aw man , a 6.5in Blackhawk is pure sweetness , only improved upon if it is a 6.5in 3 Screw .

I held my self back before , but for a currently mfg 6in DA .357 less expensive than L frame , look at GP100 . Half lug would be my preference , but again personal choice .

Same here. My hands are somewhat small. I much prefer the big S&W target grips. It's tough to get a good hold on the small wood grips.

I’ve got a 6 inch GP100, but it’s for hunting. My other 357s are a K-frame Smith 65 with a 4 in barrel and a Dan Wesson 15 with a 3.75 barrel. The shorter barrels are better balanced; however, MD requires a 6 inch barrel for hunting, and it is great for that . It depends on the purpose, and I don’t regret any of them.

What kind of holster is that(left)?

    ^^^This.

4" is snappier and less accurate. I prefer 5 or 6" barrels. But its hard to hide those in your pants.

It’s an old Smith and Wesson branded holster. Triple K makes a similar one called the Secret Agent

I would only want a longer barrel for maximum velocity on certain cartridges specifically designed for dangerous predators.

    I own a 6” barrel version of the S&W 686 and 586, but I much prefer the 4” barrels.

The longer barrels are no bueno for holster carry in a vehicle when I am outside the misnamed “Free State”.
