Thanks for the heads-up. I forgot all about the lottery, or as I like to call it - “donate an extra $15 to the DNR every August for absolutely zero personal gain whatsoever”.

    Good luck to all.....

I drew a tag last year so I'm guessing my $15 will be a donation for the next year so too

How was the hunt? Did you use a guide? A bear hunt is definitely something I would like to do in my lifetime but I don't feel prepared for it. I just bought the preference point this year.

I am in this year too. I like the 3 hunter team concept. It worked well for us last year!!!

My in-laws used to live in Grantsville in Garrett county back in the woods and bear would walk by the house. They could hunt from the porch but never did.

How do you know how many points you got

Every year that you apply and don't get picked, or bought a preference point you get 1 point. You will lose all your previously earned points if you don't apply/buy a preference point for a given year.

I wasn’t picked this year. I was picked in 2015, at the time I think I had 4 or 5 preference points. So I’m at four points again. In 2015 when I drew, I had a friend that drew also. He was picked again in 2018.

Good luck to those that drew a tag!

The last two parties to rent out my cabin were successful. I usually get a ton of bears on camera and they usually set a pretty decent time schedule in shooting light.
But like any hunting , nothing is guaranteed. make no mistake about it, bears are smart creatures and have an outstanding sense of smell.
I had a guy rent it a while back who not only smoked like a freight train, he had all his hunting gear in the cab of his truck while he drove to my place, smoking the whole way.
He obviously didn't see anything. ( no, it wasn't Chris D ... lol)
