Not just "spoon" it HAS to be a Tony Acetta!

That's funny(and yeah, always put one out on the bay), we were tuna fishing on the OBX and were doing poorly. Mate took a 'Tony' and put it on a kite rod. He jigged the crap out of it and we caught our limit in about an hour. Ever haul in 35-45lb tuna on a kite rod? They ain't made for reelin' fish in lol!

    If we're talking trolling:
    Umbrella rigs
    Tandem Parachutes
    Red Surge Tubes
    Drone Spoons
    Bucktails

    If we're talking light tackle:
BKD's (I like mine rigged to a Hardhead Custom Bait Jighead)
    Stingsilvers
    Poppers
Weighted spoons (I prefer Hardhead Custom Baits...Bendy Spoons I think they're called)
    Zara Spook

    Poppers
    Spooks
    Swin shads
Soft jerk baits ... not me but from people in the know.
I don't fish the Bay that often after seeing how many guns are there, tragic! :)

I'd swap out the popper for a Road Runner bucktail. Bluefish love them.

I was on a pier and near everyone was using a Got-cha and were catching Bluefish.

I got tired of losing Mepps Spinners , and found 25 pack of China knockoffs for $19. They've been catching fish! My favorite freshwater spoon is the Acme Phobe. Next would be a Kastmaster. Wonder if the Chinese have a Tony Acetta clone?

If we made it they copied it.

My buddies kid swore he caught a Sea Trout on the Severn by the Academy last week using a Gulp... Should I call shenanigans or is that legit?

I'm no expert on Sea Trout. I have caught plenty on the bay. Anything is possible. They eat live and cut bait.

    Thread revival here.

Whatever happened to the larger Tony Accetta spoons?

I haven't dragged a spoon on the Chesapeake in 25 years. Looks like the numbers 19 and 21 in white and chrome that were deadly on big rockfish and blues both are to be found today only on e-Bay?

Anyone know the story? Looks like I'm caught in the past. What replaced these in popularity for spring rockfish?

Nichols magnum (8”) and mini magnum (6”) flutter spoons seem to do well for large mouth. Wonder if they would work on stripers.

I would certainly think they'd catch rock.
But even in the 8 inch size, the 3/0 hook size supplied on these Nichols spoons that are popular for bass are nowhere near (what I think I recall) as a 9/0 hook on the 19 Tony. The 21 hook size was larger still. They used to need replacement periodically, as big blues especially would make short work of the feathers.
