Come again? I mean, that configuration and price tag, a hard no for me, but would a 6.5cm m1a be MD legal? Or is this a “banned by name” and it isn’t the .308 m1a that is specifically banned?

If legal, please make a basic wood stocked variety Springfield. I’ll get what all the cool kids are shooting for calibers if it means I can have an m1a.

Atlantic just released a odd gun that is probably MD approved. It's a combo of M1 grand, bm59. And M1a1. Made by James River. So it's not a M1a1 nor is it a bm59.

Interesting. Seems like weird bastardization but...........if that's what it takes to get past the MD-AZIs that may be it.

    Still prefer a clean Polytech

I prefer an armory refurbished m14. And I don’t mean a conversion to an m1a.

It was on the decades old list of scary rifles. No logic involved with how any of those guns ended up listed.

The logic is easy (although stupid)...it was a military style rifle that people wanted. It had a long, scary looking flash suppressor (and who needs those unless you're up to no good, right?!?!?) and a shoulder thingy that goes up. It had a box magazine that made it look aggressive and not practical for hunting so they could get away with getting it on the list.

Coupla points leading to a question:

    1. Thinking of building a semi-auto
version of the M14 from surplus parts and
    an LRB receiver.

    2. “M1A” is a brand name, I think, owned by Springfield, and is specified on the list of
scary bad things that no one must own in
    Maryland.

    3. So, if I build a semi-auto “14”, and not
    buy a commercial “M1A”, am I legal?

    4. Would using a “heavy” barrel, instead
of an issue barrel, make it legal, ala
    an HBAR AR-15?

    1. good GI parts are getting pricey

    2. not just that, and its copies....

    3. nope

    4. nooope

Your only "approved" title 1 rifle option is 6.5 or a metric Polytech. Good news is you can buy a stripped GI Spec receiver and assemble to configurations that are legal and/or "approved."
