  • Annapolis (AAFG) Patriot's Day Weekend Project Appleseed Rifle Marksmanship Clinic

Twelve fellow Americans came out for our Patriot's Day event at the Anne Arundel Fish and Game (AAFG) Conservation Association in Annapolis, MD, for the weekend Project Appleseed Rifle Marksmanship Clinic.
Shooters were eager to hear the story of April 19th, 1775... and we told them!
Weather on Saturday was wonderful, 85 degrees and sunny. Sunday, however... what a slap in the face - 42 and raining.

Jim T re-qualified with 220 and a 232, and cleared his AQT! Having just put up a 234 with iron sights in the previous Appleseed, Jim earned his distinguished Front-sight patch! Great job. One of our instructors (Aninha) jumped in on the line to shoot, and her rifle had been "adjusted" by a student. Ana fired one set of sighters, dialed in the numbers from a quick IMC review for the group, and then put up a 226. That's how it's done!

So in spite of rough weather on Sunday during the AQT grind, smiles and a teachable attitude were the norm. It was fun group. After wrapping up the history, we then did our last Redcoat of the day, framed the weekend, and cleaned up.

Two Riflemen re-qualified, two front-sight patches, and "Schooner" stepped up to take an Orange hat. Huzzah!
For those that didn't earn a Rifleman score yet:
    A Rifleman Persists!

Thank you very much to our host range, the Anne Arundel Fish and Game (AAFG) Conservation Association. Check out their website

And last but not least, many thanks to my fellow instructors ABCgarand, FlintLocke, CatGravity and Aninha. Our Instructor's hard work, and professional demeanor made this a safe and fun shoot.

    Age limit

The age limit is whatever we feel the child can safely handle the rifle. And Appleseed is adaptive, if the child can't hold the rifle up in prone, we'll alllow sand bags, because it's first and foremost about learning firearms use safely & responsibly, and American Heritage (never too young for that).

    :patriot:
Is there an age limit? I would like to do this with my 12 year old son.

    BRGC Appleseed, May 5-6th

    From SouthSeasNurse:

Saturday morning dawned early and beautiful on a line with 14 shooters (including 4 kids!!) to git r' done. The first Redcoat kicked off strong with 3 riflemen hitting Morgan's Shingle, four 400 yard shooters, and James T. cleaning the board with his trusty bolt action .22. With the relays we got we only got through one AQT, but turned out two requals (Kevin M., 228; and James T, 240!!) and one new Rifleman (Ray S, 212). Sunday was cloudier with a little rain. We lost one shooter but picked up another, and the shooters continued to show great performance By the end of the day we had completed 4 more AQTs, with James T consistently keeping his scores well above 210 while swinging that bolt. One the second to last AQT we gained one new rifleman (Matthew B., 212). The kids (Lily C, Nathan B, Devlin M, and Joey P) were fantastic and safe, and made steady score gains throughout the weekend even if they didn't get over the 210 threshold. Thanks again to Mike, Chuck and Alex for running a safe and fantastic shoot, and big congrats to Chuck for making Red Hat!!! Well deserved and long overdue!

Great job! I really enjoyed the two Appleseeds I went too. You do a great job teaching and keeping it fun for all ages. Highly recommend everyone doing at least one. I hope to do another soon and finally earning my Rifleman badge....

    Escaped MD for FL
I recently moved down to Florida (again!) and attended a two day Project Appleseed. Boy was I humbled! In my defense, I haven’t shot prone since, well, ever, and it showed, but made some real improvement. I only wish I had gone when I was still in MD.
    Good time!

    June 16th Weekend

    Shooters!
There's some spots open on the line for two events this coming weekend:

    1) There's a two-day Project Appleseed in Lexington Park, MD. This range allows both centerfire and rimfire!
Go here to register for that event.

    2) There's only a few spots left for the one-day Project Appleseed in Kearneysville, WV, just over the MD border past Harper's Ferry, at the Leetown Gun Club IWLA. This is a rimfire-only event.
Go here to register for that event.

Can you put five rounds in a 1" square at 25 yds prone (not on a bench)?
Project Appleseed Rifle Marksmanship Clinics are not just .22s, and not just for kids!

For future events in Maryland, go here.

One-day Project Appleseed Rifle Marksmanship Clinic 07JULY18

Eight fellow citizens got up off the couch and came out on a lovely day for the One-day Appleseed Rifle Marksmanship Clinic in Annapolis, MD. The temperature was just wonderful! Average temperature was about 75 degrees, which made for a great day at the range.
After the introductions & safety brief, we kicked off the event.
Of the Shooters on the line, 5 were repeat Appleseeders, and 3 first-timers, including a 7-yr old girl with a Cricket on a bipod... and WOW did she run that thing! Future Riflewoman in the making.
We were able to get through all the instruction and complete 2 AQTs, and folks were engrossed with the history! We even snuck in the Samuel Whittemore story.

Richard W and Mary C earned their Luther Blanchard patches, and David C re-qualified as a Rifleman with a 212, and backed it up with a 230, and then cleaned his Redcoat! Huzzah! Another recipient of the much-coveted Maryland Front-sight patch, and he also received the newly established "Distinguished" rocker.
    :gun1:

All the shooters maintained a teachable attitude, huge improvements were made, and everybody had a lot of fun! Thank you very much to our host range, the Anne Arundel Fish and Game Association (AAFG) in Annapolis, MD. Check out their website.

Berwyn Rod & Gun Club (BRGC) Ladyseed 8&9 Sept

Saturday dawned a grey and threatening overcast, and a little warm and humid. A hurricane threatened a few days off in the Atlantic... but that did not deter several great American lady shooters from coming out and showing up on the line at the Berwyn Rod & Gun Club (BRGC), in Bowie, MD for a Ladyseed (ladies-only) Project Appleseed Rifle Marksmanship Clinic, in Bowie, MD.
After kicking off with introductions and the safety brief, we completed our first Redcoat. And what an impressive start! After some Prone Steady Hold-factor training, we then moved on to putting sighters on the Squares target... we quickly saw great progress. After some history at lunch, we got back to marksmanship training - as the day progressed, the weather went downhill, but it was apparent that the groups had improved significantly. All the shooters maintained a fabulous attitude, and huge improvements were made.
When Sunday morning came, persistent rain, cooler temps, and wind was the scene... but still a great weekend to be at the (covered) range! After some more coaching, including mag-change drills, hold-the-trigger-back, and NPOA (carding the sights) drills, we got down to some Appleseed Qualification Tests (AQT). Paula P (The P was for "Proficient") put up a 214 and a 224. Great job! After wrapping up the history, and a final Redcoat target, the shooters heard about some Dangerous Old Men and Dangerous Dames that showed up to make a difference on April 19th, 1775, and throughout our war for independence. A Rifleman patch was handed out to Paula, and Cynthia F was voted the Shoot Boss's hero as the most persistent. HUGE progress was made and everybody had fun, too! Paula also verbalized that she really appreciated the slower pace, the extra drills, and the caring attention from our instructors, working with everyone personally. One of the ladies said she felt very safe (referring to how the line is run at Appleseed).
We hope we see all the ladies back on the line at some point... A RIFLE(WO)MAN PERSISTS!
    Huzzah!
Thank you very much to our host range, BRGC in Bowie, MD.
Check out their website here - http://www.berwyn.org/

And last but not least, many thanks to my fellow instructors MikeCee, Aninha, and PB4Y1, whose positive attitudes and professional demeanor made this a safe and successful shoot.
