Has any member here used BOTH of the 870/100 shell latch re-staking tools in attached pictures

If so, which is your preference?

I have the Brownells “impact force” tool on-hand and have used it about a dozen times in 30 years; however; I have a friend bringing over a family heirloom of his and so, upon learning about the second “leverage” principle design, I ordered one of those this evening ...

Thinking the best plan of attack is to try the leverage principle tool first and have the “force impact” as a backup ...

But, figured I’d inquire here and a couple other places, in case that leverage principled one is, in fact, the bees knees ... (or not)

    Thx in advance!

    Thank you, tallen!

Yeah, I beat on more than a few departmental receivers - and even a couple of my own personal 12ga - with the old school tool but, I always hear my late bro-in-law ironworker home machinist’s voice in the back of my head:

Never ever use brute force on any firearm if there is any possibility of a more logical, better alternative to accomplish what you need to ...

That almost always defaults to using leverage.

I’m looking forward to the new tool’s arrival and am def going to use that first as the friend is bringing over a 20ga 1100 that is part of a complete set of THE EARLIEST AVAILABLE IN EACH 12, 16, 20, 28 gauges and .410 bore 1100’s his father bequeathed to him ~ 60 years ago.

No way I’m swinging a 8oz ball peen in the vicinity of such a keepsake if there is an alternative way. I mean, dang, that could be the end of a friendship!

And, my decision to invest in the new tool is also driven by fact I own several 28ga 870’s and 1100’s. Should any of the shell latches ever come loose in any of those sub-gauge Remingtons, I will be happy to not have to resort to swinging a hammer next to those receivers, as well!

Going to check that video out now - thanks again!
