There's a difference between a double tap and a controlled pair.

A double tap is two shots done with 1 sight picture using a strong ass iron grip.
    Sight picture, press, press, reset.

A controlled pair is sight picture, press, reset, press, reset.

Many think they are double tapping when they really aren't doing neither.

When i first read this i was thinking “reset” was resetting the trigger, but after reading it again i’m wondering are you referring to resetting your sight picture?

Great write-up, Z. Nice to know the difference in feel between this and the other compact variants.

My P-01 has been relegated to "Kadet duty" since I got a Kadet kit from another MDS member a while back. I was thinking of another CZ compact when I eventually either leave MD or break down and get my HQL... Thanks for the info!

Thanks! I realized that there's probably more than a couple of us here who own CZ's but have never owned one with a thumb safety. Don't get me wrong, if I had to carry on a daily basis I'd most likely prefer the decocker over the thumb safety but, since I won't be doing that in the foreseeable future and prefer a slightly better trigger, the thumb safety CZ's are what I like. Their triggers just keep getting nicer the more they're used.

However, trying to keep-up with all the different pistols that CZ builds and roll marks 'Compact' requires some diligence. For example, I didn't realize until very recently they built an all-steel, thumb safety version of the P-01 that 'unofficially' has been dubbed the SP-01 Compact:

Unfortunately, I've never seen any of these for sale in MD and I'm not sure if it's even on the roster but, it's another one I wouldn't mind adding to the collection.

Holy crap! I had a P01 and it was hands down the best feeling pistol I've ever held, but as a southpaw the decocker didn't work for me. The above pistol would be incredible!

I agree. Lefties who liked CZ's didn't have a lot of (known) options because CZ's marketing department, well, let's just say they aren't exactly known for doing a great job of educating buyers with what's out there. As I understand it, they also make an alloy frame version of the pistol in the above pic, along with a steel framed version. I could probably track down the exact catalog/product code if you'd like but, that's what I mean when I say that CZ likes to keep you guessing. They do have a reputation for surprising us every now and then with limited-run pistols, like the OD green P-01 that came out in 2016. That may be the same category the 'SP-01 Compact' and the non-decocker P-01 fall into since neither are listed in the 2018 CZ product catalog.

Didn't even think about that! I'm a lefty and have just gotten used to everything being on the "wrong" side and don't really use the decocker.. It's awkward to release a mag with my trigger finger, but I've gotten used to it...

I really need to look into this model above!

Between the classic revolvers and AR pistol, Fidelity and I also managed a few shots with the CZ 75 Compact yesterday at HTC. CZ's are fantastic pistols straight outta the box but, they only get better the more they're shot.

I was pleasantly impressed by the CZ 75 Compact. Truly point, shoot, and pretty much hit what you're aiming at. Almost effortless. I've put it on my want list, but curious to run it against the 9mm PPS M2 and PPQ M1 next time.

I neglected to mention this in the revolver porn thread because it was off topic, but your SOTAR pistol was badass. I gotta add one to my collection, and maybe do another SOTAR class in the process.

The big difference is the trigger. CZ's equipped with the thumb safety have a significantly lighter and crisper trigger-pull than the decocker models, like the PCR and P-01, and they keep getting better with usage. I don't think I'll ever buy another CZ equipped with a decocking-lever unless I plan to CC it.

The SOTAR-build AR pistol is a lot of fun and it still amazes me how a box of parts became a fully functional, 100% reliable firearm with outstanding accuracy. Now that I've got this first one under my belt, I'm eager to build a hunting rifle in something, like 6.8 SPC or 300 BLK, for my youngest son who relocated back to WV a few months ago. When I sent him pics of the AR pistol build, his first comment was, "You're giving me that, right?"

The P-01 with thumb safety and railed frame is steel frame. Fantastic shooter. The P-01 thumb safety is model 99041 and available with a new batch hitting the US a few months ago.

I have the 99021 model thats 100% identical to the 99041 P-01. only difference is that it says CZ75 compact on the slide instead of P-01. It grouped and shot very well at 7 and 15 yards. Just recently installed,

    All from Cajun Gun works
    - 85c Trigger
    - Floating trigger pin
    - CGW Short reset kit
    - Front and rear Dawson sights
    - Reduced trigger return spring
    - Lighter hammer and recoil springs

This reduced double action to 7lbs and single action to 3lbs on the dot. Shoots right next to my Shadow 2 and is a breeze. I am by no means a pistol marksman, but its hard
to tell from the untrained eye with the groupings i now create.

I did the same CGW upgrade with fiber front and back on my decocker P-01. Shoots like a beast. Upgrades took me 3 hours...
