    RUGER SR1911 they are awesome!
They do have a loyal following, but from what I've seen the Dan Wesson 1911s are in a class by themselves, and compare favorably to the custom level 1911s but Wilson Combat, Ed Brown and Les Baer.

    "I have 2 1911’s. One is a 1967 Camp Perry National Match."

That is one of those cat's meow's. Nice.

Yeah. You want to curse my name? I got it from a guy for $1200. He named the price.......

It had MAYBE a box of ammo through it. One of those “holy chit” moments in life.

I once bought an early 80s (81-82) S&W Model 27 that was near mint. Wonderful pistol but I sold it to fund another purchase, and because it was an 8" barrel model. Still kind of regret selling it. A fellow MDSer has it so who knows, I might try to buy it back one day.

That’s a sweet gun. I had a Desert Eagle in .44 Mag I bought for $400 in the early 90’s. Sold it when I went to med school. I regret that sale.

I've got a few goals with this upcoming 1911 purchase.

First and foremost I want a gun that allows me to semi-retire the 1941 vintage 1911 I have.

Second, I want a gun that's nice enough that I won't say, "I like it well enough, but I should have gotten a..."

Last, at the end of the day, I want a shooter that isn't so expensive that I'm going to baby it - kind of like my trumpets.

My main gigging horn is about $2200 brand new (which actually isn't a lot) and although I do take care off it and maintain it well, I USE it. And use it and use it. I've kept it pretty clean since over gotten it, but the lacquer had some wear spots, and I noticed a little ding I picked up somewhere, and I'm ok with that.

This pistol will be a lifelong purchase.

    Trickg,

I see the relationship from instruments to firearms, and I'm considering a 1911.

I've got a Powell custom Bb (Fred is a friend) and enjoy Smith and Wessons. Looking at their 1911.

I ordered my pistola today. I took advantage of the LE/Mil purchase program from Dan Wesson and ordered the 2020 Valor in stainless. It's a heck of a program - I highly recommend it for anyone who qualifies.

I finally ordered my first 1911, SW1911 E series. Figured it be a good first one. Can't wait to get it.

I just did some reading on those and they look really nice. Might have to give one a look for my next one.

    Nice choice!

No secret I'm a SW fan, never had a bad one. For me was a logical choice for the first 1911.

I’m a S&W fan too but particularly for their wheel guns. I still have a few classics I want to pick up - Models 19, 27/28, 57, and maybe another 29.

But back to the subject of their 1911s, they seem to have things figured out with their extractors. I know many are not fans of external extractors on a 1911, but I’ve never heard of a S&W having FTE issues.

I'm not sure where this will go. I've wanted another 1911 for a while, and now that I've finally gotten this one, there are are still a couple I’d be willing to look into:

    1. Sig 1911s still look intriguing
    2. The S&W 1911s look like they offer incredible value
    3. I could probably be very happy with a Springfield
    4. Both Ruger and Remington offer solid 1911s
    5. Maybe another Dan Wesson, such as the Specialist?

I’m not sold on 1911s with an accessory rail, which is odd because aesthetically I like a rail on most other semi-auto pistols, but I think it looks pretty nice on the TRP Operator and the Dan Wesson Specialist.

Of course everything is limited by budget, and I have to choose wisely because my current budget can’t afford to buy everything I’d want. For the moment my next purchases look like they’re going to be another AR upper, and probably the re-release Colt Python. What’s not to like there, right? :)
