For the people that say there's too many powders. What is your problem with it? They're not forcing you to buy it. Just ignore them. If you don't know if you're buying Alliant Green Dot or Hodgdon Green you shouldn't be reloading. If you don't know the difference between the powders how can you expect to use the right powder bushing.

Lighten up there fella. Everyone is entitled to his/her/its opinion. This isn't Russia you know. Well not yet anyway. :innocent0

Anybody use the AmericanReloader military rifle powder? It runs about $25 a lb but the cost includes all shipping hazmat fees. Its WC-844/WC-846

I'm okay with Hodgdon coming out with 20 new powders. What do I care. As long as there's something to buy when I go to buy it. I think people will always find something to b!tch about. So they're complaining about too many choices? You stated it is ridiculous for Hodgdon to come out with new powders. Why? If they think they can make money more power to them. If you want less choice move to Russia. I'm not pissed off. I don't understand why others are.

I used to use WC 844 and 846 when I was shooting .308 a lot. Where are you getting this powder from?

Some wiser reloaders at range buy their stuff from there but haven't personally used their stuff. Looking at the pulled bullets for plinking and the powder.

I don't know what their thinking is but I agree that we have too many powders today. When I started reloading, we had Alcan, Dupont, IMR, Winchester and Hogdon (for surplus only). I may have missed one or two. For the most part, the powder manufacturers only had, at the most, a dozen powders for sale. Today, there are so many powders that I can't keep track of them all!

Being a good red blooded American boy, I like to have choices but this is getting ridiculous.

I started reloading in the mid-70s

Dupont and IMR was the same, until Hodgdon purchased the rights to IMR.

Also there was Hercules, now Alliant.

Scot powders, which are now part of Accurate. I don't remember when Accurate entered the market.

And by the mid-70s, not all Hodgdon powders were surplus. They had started having powder made for them.

It seems a number of their bullets selections are mixed weights.

And not sure where they are getting so many pulled plated bullets.

I think the bad thing about new powders is it makes other powders less available or intermittently available if production capacity is fixed. On the other hand if they add new powders but get rid of others that have limitations then it is good. More new more versatile powders is a good thing.
It would be what many call "Progress"

    Winchester BALL® Pistol Powders

Right their on their web site. Maybe you should write them a letter and tell them they got it wrong.

Read their literature. They even state they are flattened balls. And look at them. They are not fully spherical, unlike their rifle ball powders.

I called Hodgdon today for another reason and ended up shooting-the-breeze with the rep. I asked about Varget in 2017 and they ARE making it. He did say demand is way up, so get while you can. Interesting note: He mentioned that they are limited in the amount they can make per powder. Didn't dig any further, so I don't know if it's legislative or production related. Wondering if that's why they are making the new powders?

Ironpony, talked to Mike vandyke at hodgdon, the rumors of varget not being produced is completely false. This sort of talk is what starts the buying frenzys. When in doubt call them and ask before spreading rumors. All reloading component manufacturers will take calls and answer questions. I've been calling them for 42 years

Thanks for the alert! I have been checking PV every day but only focusing on the in/out stock column. I made an account at Midsouth yesterday and they will probably be getting my primer order.
