I'd get a free speech permit in a heartbeat, just to show them that they can't stop me from reading papers, speaking publicly. posting on blogs and writing letters to the editors all in an government approved manner.

Why, I would sign up to TEACH people how to get their permits just to show them that I'm not a trained monkey on a leash or something like that. Because I'll do anything they require me to do just to show them that they can't keep me from doing it. Yeah yeah I'd show them. :party29:

Apparently from my messages the subtle sarcasm was missed.

I disagree. By facilitating the left's agenda, you slowly are assimilated into their way of thinking. Your own statement appears to consider getting an HQL to be a reasonable thing to do.

    John

When we negotiate 1/2 our rights away the compromise is not a win it is still a loss. Getting 2 out of ten onerous provisions taken out of a bill doesnt make it better, it is still a loss. When you knock a 10% tax increase down to 5% its still a tax increase.

Additionally, the many new people getting into guns, the twenty somethings, are getting into it for self defense. Many of them shoot in practical and tactical matches and don't even belong to a club.
I know because I have trained many of them. :D

Same here and the percentages of Women are rising dramatically too.

Voting. That's the critical one for me in terms of a comparison. Imagine for a moment if you introduced the HQL requirement but replaced each instance of "purchase a gun" with "cast a vote in an election". The people who sponsored FSA2013 would lose their minds and accuse you of being Satan incarnate. Some rights are more equal than others.

I have to say, the pessimism, defeatism, and lack of long term thinking of some in this group really aggravates me. The whole "I want everything now or I'm going home." Serves no purpose other than to give the other side hope. And guess what: that's how they win. Gun grabbers, liberals, socialists, radical Islamists: they all think in terms of decades, or even centuries to reach their goals. Us? If our rights aren't restored in 18 months, we're giving up.
That's exactly how we got Zero as a President....TWICE!! That's how we ended up with Boehner and McConnel as GOP leaders.

Hogan isn't just a good step in the right direction, he's a GREAT step in the right direction. 1st step in medical triage: identify the major wounds, especially major bleeding. Check, Hogan's election did that. 2nd step: STOP THE BLEEDING!! This takes a little time, but again if Hogan does nothing but stop the bleeding, both with 2A and fiscally, then that is a HUGE win.

We got here by baby steps taking us farther and farther down the road of 2A infringement, the FSA was the latest law infringing on our rights, not the first. To be quite frank, if loosening the definition of G&S is all that he is able to do in the next 2 years on the 2A front, then it will be a start and I'll be happy. We then use that to slowly change hearts and minds of Marylanders to make greater changes in years, and elections, to come.

This is the Old Line State for crying out loud. Stand your ground and don't turn away. We've started the March to recapture the cannons, but we aren't there yet. But soon we will secure them and can turn them on our attackers.

My post (#104) and Minuteman's post (#207)... Pretty much request the same thing from the Governor elect. Dont use this opportunity as a bargaining chip. Use it to get on the offensive, not on the defensive... cast them off balance! He will be proven right over time, and soon everything will be forgotten with eliminating/reducing taxes... (draw attention to one, not the other).

    1) G&S admin change... When? = WITHIN 90 DAYS OF BEING SWORN IN
    2) Legislation as needed... When? = NEXT GA SESSION (I believe the Southern MD delegation might be already working on something)
    3) Courts when required... When? = EARLY NEXT YEAR (Fingers crossed), and 4) Voting is critical... YES, and having a few rallies wouldnt hurt either.

Have you heard something? Would like to know more

If gambling wasn't illegal, I'd stand to make a lot of money when Hogan and/or his MSP appointee does absolutely nothing whatsoever on G&S.

HA needs to pass a basic civics course, maybe study history and the constitution some. This is a civil rights issue and too many poeple want to fight the battle in the have my cake and eat it mode.
I thought about the basic civics course, but opted to go buy some new handguns, because, you know. I CAN. Since you have stopped collecting, perhaps you have the time and extra funds to do so. By the way, I laid no claims to any training credentials, that was the other guy, who then failed to substantiate it, perhaps all the words confused you. I simply profess to having the same basic things everyone here does as well. Driving isn't a constitutional right? Really, well the freedom to travel from State to State sure is, and since driving is the preferred method of doing so, and I need a license to drive, I'm going to get one. In the meantime, once the HQL law is reversed, you are free to walk to the gunshop and stick it to the Man in the exercise ( literally ) of your rights.

Anyone who thinks that the MD GA is going to look at handgun sales in a few years and say, well what do you know, our new HQL law suppressed handgun sales, we better repeal that so gun sales go back to normal. C'mon, who really thinks that will happen? Will they also say, well, no ak 47's have been sold, guess we better repeal that darn law.

If you want to bash gun owners, maybe you should be on an anti site, acting like, an anti. The next thing you will want to do, to complete the transformation, is stop buying handguns.

    Whoops..

And you probably didn't even know yourself until now, so tell us, how do you plan on telling your parents?

I feel a similar way. I don't think anything will be done over the next 4 years about G&S, CCW, and the gun laws. Now, I don't think any new gun laws will come up but I don't think any of the current ones will be repealed. I hope I'm wrong but I think Hogan will just be focused on other issues and this won't be a big enough issue for him to deal with.

You are about 2 years late with your HQL debates, not even quite sure how that got in this thread to start with.

As mentioned, having an HQL or not having an HQL has no influence on anything in our legislator.

The state's budget isn't being helped by the hql :innocent0

Barely 14,000 have been issued so far this year. The state had forecasted closer to 100,000...

But I would wager it is a factor in the court cases.

You're right on all counts. But don't forget that Maryland was also called The Free State at one time. Let's work toward that some more.

It's around 14,400 as of now, early December 2014... I think they are presently processing aprox. 50 to 100 per week.

I think the low numbers are most likely due to the high volume of gun sales right before FSA/HQL requirement went into effect. My wife and I invested heavily to "beat" the HQL. Even my dad, who hadn't fired a pistol since he served in the Navy during Korea, went out and bought a handgun. A good friend of mine purchased probably 10 or more handguns before the HQL went into effect. He had a list of everything he had always wanted and made sure he got it all.

Frankly, my wife and I didn't find the HQL to be as time consuming. The hardest part was the fingerprinting, which only took a few minutes. We were early adopters of the HQL (to get it over with), as our license numbers are somewhere in the low 400's.

Waugh had plans laid out on this topic during his campaign... It still is in his website... http://waugh2014.com/blog/2014/09/14/second-amendment/

This is still in the press release section of Deb's website... http://debreyfordelegate.com/gun range.pdf

Read the 3rd bullet from Matt's website... http://www.voteformattmorgan.com/

Tony O'Donnell... he voted against SB281

I assure you Tony did a hell of a lot more than just vote against SB281. He and Jeannie Haddaway avoided credit (they work that way) for some fine back-room work with some key folks who helped make registration go away. Among other things.

So yeah, he's one of the great ones.
