K98-what do I have?

Hey guys, wondering if you can help me out here. I'm considering selling this, but I don't know what to ask for it, comes with about 700 rds of surplus 8 mm. And a good portion of that is on stripper clips.

Looks like a Russian capture. Numbers don't match. Missing the cleaning rod and front sight hood(Russians removed these for scrap). Assuming the bore is good, ~$400 for the rifle and ~$250 for the ammo.

Thanks guys! Probably going to list here in a few days, if none of my friends wants first dibs.
I bought this about 3 years ago, cleaned it, shot about 20 rds through it, cleaned it again and put it away.

You, sir, have a K98 manufactured by Mauser AG Oberndorf in 1941 which subsequently fell into Russian hands, as previously mentioned. The telltale signs of Russian capture rifles are the reddish shellac applied to the stock, the black oxide finish on the metal, and the gun has been renumbered, usually by electropencil, as well as stamping new numbers into the stock.

Id concur with the above. It looks like it is partially peened but cant tell for sure. That dramatically reduces the value.

Id say $350 to $400 unpeened

$300 to $350 peened

Yep it's been peened.

Lot's of inconsistencies in the quality of Russian capture K98 rifles.

Some are very nice while others are nothing more than scrap parts cobbled together.
