Wear and Carry permit

Sorry in advance for what may be a simple question or one that's easily searched. I looked trough a 100 or so pages of the sticky above but gave up.

Am I reading correctly that being an honorably discharge veteran would be an exemption form the 16hr. Initial and 8hr. Renewal training requirements?

I am a business owner and have been meaning to apply for a W&C permit since that was enough for G&S. Just never seem to find the time to get it done. If being ex-military takes care of the training then I need to quit putting it off.

I had visited the same page which lead to the my question. I just assumed I must have been reading it wrong. Just seemed too easy for the free state.

You are just 90 days from exercising your God given right. As long as you have g & s the prices is pretty easy. Not as easy as a free state like PA but pretty easy all the same. It should be for everyone.

Submitted everything today online and put the check in the mail.

I also applied for a HQL which I said I wasn't going to do, but I guess I figured eventually I would end up doing so.

I'll let you know how everything goes if anyone is interested in time lines.

I hope you mean you requested that they also give you the HQL after you get the W&C. Because they will do just that, at no extra cost, after you get the W&C.

And another thing, after you get your home-state W&C, go get your Pennsylvania License to Carry (that's what PA calls it) at the county of your choice. Adams County is a good one, download the form on line and mail it to the courthouse in Gettysburg. Then they send you a letter to come pick it up, $20 and you'll leave the courthouse with the license in your pocket, almost like America!

No I probably did it the wrong way or at least the more expensive way. My lack of knowledge I suppose. Just hard, for me at least, to keep up with all the regulations place upon us.

I just filled out the online application and paid the $50. Heck the fingerprinting service I used even convinced me to pay twice for 2 sets of fingerprintings. Which seemed stupid but I never even pushed her on it because I never stop being suprised at any of this nonsense wee have to do anymore.

I was never planning on applying for the HQL when it was passed. I already own a few handguns and figured I could just stick with long guns as there's always another interesting gun that I have to have. I can't afford to have all of them anyway. I guess, I also hoped it may get tossed out in the courts before I had to get it.

I decided to apply for the HQL because if I get the W&C permit I would probably want something a little smaller to conceal than any of my current handguns. About the smallest I own is a full size 1911. Doable but maybe not in summer with shorts and a T-shirt.

I can't understand anyway, why if you get an W&C you would even need an HQL. But it sounds like from your post that the state at least gives them out if you get the W&C permit.

To your other point about the PA permit, I need to definitely look into it and other surrounding states. I thought, I had heard a lot of folks get a Utah permit I'm guessing for other states to recognize it. Does PA only recognize PA permits like Maryland?

I plan to take the W&C training anyway because I need to learn the legal info for carrying. It is nice that my military service allows me to be able to apply and then take the training. Instead of wasting the money and effort to be turned down for the permit. It should be that way for everyone.

Just more of MD doing everything they can to harass, intimidate, and punish anyone who dares to want guns in their socialist utopia state. The cheapest, quickest, and easiest way is to get the W&C, then get the HQL afterwards. Sorry you didn't learn sooner, could have at least saved you the HQL application fee and fingerprints.

PA does recognize some other permits but not MD, or any non-resident permit but they will give a non-resident PA license if said individual has their home-state permit. The Utah will let you carry in Delaware, as DE doesn't recognize MD or PA. DE also recognizes AZ & FL, which are two other good non-resident permits. The web site handgunlaw.us is a great resource, you can click on a state and see which states honor its permit, and which other states it honors.

And finally, your DD214 is the only thing you need, although I strongly agree that more training is always a good thing.
