Colt has also released (quietly) a bead blasted Python that runs about 200 bucks less than the stainless.

I’m okay with the stainless being my only one, but that might change if a blued option is introduced.

The matte finished Python doesn't appeal to me...a Python is supposed to have the finest finish...the bead blasted ones simply don't I've up to that. For a truck gun it's one thing but again...no appeal to me.

I'll never say I refuse to own one...money talks...but it may end up being some kind of collectible down the road if they don't sell well. It's Colt's marketing strategy and they didn't ask me. If they did...they should have given it a different name. I can see such a move if law enforcement agencies were asking for a less expensive version of the Python...but revolvers are dead in that market.

As far as blued Pythons goes...it could happen but not too likely. The Diamond Like Coating (DLC) Pythons are dead...Colt decided the costs were simply too high for the market. I've seen several in person and in photos and the DLC Black Pythons are stunning...I'd love to own one...or two...but it's not going to be a production item. Colt's Custom Shop has done them but don't know whether any more will be done...money talks.

I think the 5" Python is the most balanced looking Python ever.

5" really sounds like a sweet spot...

    ...yes!

    Yeah, I agree.

I need another 357 not at all, and I bought the 3" because it was as close to the old 2.5 as I could afford, but the 5 really seems like it will become a classic. Dammit.

Boy, the 5" in DLC would scream "BUY ME!!" a lot louder than I could stand.

Colt had nixed a DLC Python due to costs…but has just released a carbon steel blued Python…kind of a stealth release. I’ve already ordered two…an 6” and a 4.25”. The 6” has already been shipped and is en route to a local gun store…the 4.25” is back ordered.

I should have the 6” by early next week.

Too bad about no DLC; that would be an heirloom gun for sure.

If they come out with a blue 5" I'd probably have to go for it. I hope they hold off until I'm flush . . .

I saw three DLC Pythons at the annual Colt Collectors Association meet in October…two were engraved. They were all simply stunning. What I don’t know is whether those three were given the DLC by Colt or done aftermarket. I do know of a couple of Colt Custom Shop DLC Pythons with sequential serial numbers done on special order by a couple of Colt collectors…5” barrels if I remember. Those Pythons will be worth some coin as possibly the only ones done along with sequential serial numbers.

Yeah, if I was a rich man, I'd go for a sequentially-numbered set, encompassing all the available barrel lengths. Betcha it could be had, if you waved a large enough wad of cash.

Picked up the blued 6" Colt Python yesterday afternoon. It's a real nice piece...assembly seems flawless...smooth action. It was very heavily coated in oil...took some time to clean it off and still some is there. The bluing is more black than blue. It's kind of a stealth revolver...dark black with dark stocks and even the side flats of the hammer are blued...not left polished in the white as Colt traditionally did. The polishing is very well done and very reflective but still different from the Royal Blue of old which looked very deep.

Here it is next to a 1977 era Python which is much more blue than black.

    Very nice!

I assume the grips are some sort of composite? The Look is in keeping with the black finish.

Despite your earlier impression that Colt wasn't ready to jump back into the blued finish, it seems that they're willing to go where the money is. Maybe it has something to do with their new owners? CZ seems willing to play the variation game, and that means more money from the collector contingent. Anyone into Colt collection needs deep pockets, or an understanding wife. Or both.

Oh, I'm a fan. If you're looking to skin that smoke wagon, at a Cowboy Action match, let me know.

It’s a real cool game. I’m more of a bullseye shooter with my Sixguns, not that I live in the X-Ring, but I like a slower paced shoot with my SAA’s. I want to send that one out for some Bob Munden Sixgun Magic. It really really likes 255lswc over 10gr unique.
