A rifle "exploded" when fired at Elk Neck Range about 11:15 AM Sunday July 31, 2016 injuring the shooter. The story is in the Cecil Whig newspaper August 1st edition page A3.

    To summarize the story:
    The rifle was Russian made.
    The shooter was a reloader.
The shooter was transported to Christiana Hospital for treatment. "He suffered wounds to his face and possibly to his eyes."
The shooter was 50 year old David Dale Zug.
".......the exact cause of the glitch remains under investigation."

Range is open after 1PM today (normal operating hours).

RSOs on duty that day did a remarkable job in handling the situation.

Do you know if the guy was wearing safety glasses? The comment in the paper about possibly injuring his eyes had me wondering.

My guess is it was a Mosin shooting reloads so it will take a real investigation to pinpoint the root cause, either a hidden flaw in the rifle or an oops with the reload or it could be a little of both.

+1 on the RSO's response good thing they were there.
