    Have you looked at recumbents?

There have been quite a few articles about how the classic bike seat can hurt not only the male junk but also ladies.

Yep. I race and have several road and tt bikes.

With road bikes, you pay more for lightness That's about it. A 22 lb road bike costs a few hundred dollars and will be made mostly from aluminum. An 18 lb bike will be about $1500 and be aluminum and some carbon fiber. A 15 lb bike will be north of $5k and be mostly all carbon fiber.

Trek, cannnondale, giant, felt, etc. all make good bikes.

The poster who said find a good shop was spot on. Find a shop that will take time to get you properly fitted to your bike. Buy what you can afford. Road bikes are like ARs - you can upgrade endlessly.

I've never had a problem with RacePace. Both of their shops have good people, just be patient if they are full. They give customers full attention, 1 at a time in my experience.

Definately get fitted whichever shop you go to. The little adjustments they make can take a "I guess this feels OK", to "This feels perfect".

I used to work at RacePace. MANY years ago.
Still a good place from what I hear.

I have an old Specialized Allez in Carbon with Dura-Ace haning in the garage.
I have 4 sets of tubulars rims to go with it. I have not ridden seriously in almost 20 years. I really do miss it.

    Good luck.

Be careful with the carbon fiber bikes; some have weight restrictions (for the rider). If you're not racing, get a steel frame bike. Steel can take a lot more bumps and will rarely fail catastrophically. Carbon and aluminum will shatter while steel will bend. And remember: Steel is real.

wouldnt be my 1st carbon bike.
i had a full carbon giant mountain bike.
ive had too many steel frames crack or break at the welds.

I have thousands of miles (including very bumpy, high speed expansion joints) on my carbon fiber. No issues.

Buy CF, upgrade components when able. Swap the nice stuff to a new frame in 5-8 years.

There is no comparison between between a "couple hundred" dollar bike and a 1.5-3K bike. That price point gets you into the very good stuff that any enthusiast will be happy with.

If going for Shimano eqpt, 105 is the entry point for road gear, moving up to
Ultegra then Dura Ace. Stick with a 105 minimum entry point.
