    Hello fellow shooters,
I am looking for an event to go to in the College park, PG, or Montgomery county area that has some discussion on guns. Essentially I have a friend who is strongly anti-gun but wants to learn about why we feel the way we do on guns (someone who isn't me). If you have any suggestions that are in OCT or very early NOV please let me know I would be greatly appreciative.

    Thanks

Take him to a range and let him shoot a bit and meet a couple shooters

Contact VGCA (Virginia Gun Collectors Association) and take him to a meeting. I have gotten to know a bunch of those guys over the last few years. Good folks.

A little late to the party here, but on the practical application side of things and to show how firearms aren't just bullet-spewing death-machines but are, in fact, used for actual sports, I highly recommend taking your friend to PG Trap and Skeet on a Saturday or Sunday to play some trap or skeet. Not only will your friend be around people dressed casually (often in polos and shorts) but they will get to be hands-on shooting at a moving target. That means they will get to see the realities of the physics of shooting. It's not punching holes in stationary paper (anyone can do that) they have to learn to lead a target (more-so in skeet) and when you explain that the pattern of the shotgun shot at that range is about a foot across and they still can't hit it 100% of the time (or if at all) how do they think they'd fare trying to hit a moving target with a rifle or pistol. Most people I've talked to there are very open and happy to have conversations about shooting sports and the misconceptions non-shooters have.
