Our club is looking for someone who regulalry participates in various organized/sanctioned shooting competitions locally to give a short info session at our annual meeting.

The idea would be to provide info for where and when these competitions ons are held within short driving range, the most common types, levels of difficulty or necessary level of firearms competency, types of equipment required, cost etc.

Local matches only and we're open to hearing about matches sanctioned by any well respected entity. Any type of firearm, but something that has a pretty low bar for entry in terms of cost and experience.

how many bays and what sizes does your club have. does it have a rifle range and what size is that.

the two most popular games, (at least with sanctioning bodies) should be uspsa (uspsa and also steel challenge) and idpa. basically you run around a course of fire shooting at various cardboard and steel targets. then there is a fair amount of 2 and 3 gun (so add a rifle, shotgun), but mostly 'outlaw' though some are run thru 3 Gun Nation. with steel challenge, you remain stationary (other than one stage where you move ~10 feet left or right) and shoot five steel plates, five times for each stage.

thurmont (thurmont conservation and sportsmans club) about an hour west of bmore hosts idpa, uspsa and 2 & 3 gun matches (and also cowboy action i think, 3 gun with cowboy guns and attire). matches are normally posted here and best way to go see what is going on and what all is involved.

for the handgun games (idpa and uspsa, and steel challenge) you need a handgun (duh) in 9mm or larger, decent holster (blade tech or comp tac or a hundred others, most are kydex, owb), 2+ mag pouches and 3+ magazines. and a sturdy belt to put all that on. eye and ear protection of course.

the big thing at all these matches is safety first. cooper's four rules. need to be comfortable (and proficient) drawing and shooting and holstering. you DO NOT need to be a marksman or have sniper credentials. but of course you can't go shooting over the berm or at your feet.

Sorry, let me clarify. We are a club as in we are a semi organized group of people. We don't have a specific location that we control. We're looking for someone who can inform our members about local organized, competitive Shooting events.

I'd be willing to come talk about Cowboy Action Shooting. Low bar to entry: you can borrow guns. Loosely organized: I can be competitive. Run at several locations around MD.

Thanks, it turns out that one of our members competes all over the state in multiple disciplines. We might want to do a more comprehensive info session next year, and I'll come back to this thread when we get closer.
